Floor mats are an absolute must for the daily protection of your car. If the mat gets filled with dirt or liquid, it can really put a damper on our mood. When faced with such issues, you might consider TPE floor mats or other rubber ones as they're a breeze to clean.
However, we've also received feedback from some customers saying that our mats don't fit at all after they start using the new ones. After getting this news, we tested and repackaged the Lasfit floor mats and finally uncovered the reason. Turns out, it's because the factory packaging uses a folding method, and the squeezing during logistics transportation causes the foot pads to bend slightly. And we've got some tips for maintaining your floor mats.
Heating Restoration Method
1. Hot air heating:
- How to do it:
You can use a hair dryer on low heat to slowly blow hot air on the deformed area. Since the floor mat is large, you need to move the hair dryer to heat evenly and avoid overheating in one spot. The temperature can be controlled around 60℃ - 80℃.
- Principle:
Same as the heating restoration principle of ordinary TPE materials. Softening the material allows the molecular chains to rearrange and restore the shape.
- Caution:
Do not use high heat. It may cause the mat to change color, age, or emit an unpleasant odor. Also, stay away from flammable items to prevent fires. For example, if you notice your floor mat is warped after being left in a hot car for a long time, you can try this method.
2. Hot water soaking:
- How to do it:
Prepare moderately hot water at about 50℃ - 60℃. (Please make sure to use the method in a safe situation.) Soak the deformed part of the floor mat in the water. Gently press or manipulate the deformed area to help it regain its shape. The soaking time should not be too long, usually a few minutes.
- Principle:
Using hot water to soften the material and promote deformation recovery.
- Caution:
After soaking, take it out and dry it in time. Avoid prolonged soaking as it may damage the mat material or breed bacteria. Make sure the mat is completely dry before putting it back in the car. For instance, if your mat got bent while being stored in a damp place, this might be a good solution.
Physical Correction Method
1. Manual correction:
- How to do it:
For slight deformation, you can directly gently stretch or press the deformed area by hand. But since the floor mat is large, it may require multiple people to cooperate for correction.
- Principle:
Utilize the elasticity and plasticity of the material to restore the shape.
- Caution:
The force should be moderate to avoid damaging the mat. If the deformation is severe, manual correction may not be very effective. Suppose you find a small wrinkle on your mat, you can try this.
2. Mold correction:
- How to do it:
Since the shape of automotive floor mats is relatively complex, it's hard to find a perfectly suitable mold. You can try using some flat and heavy objects, like books or wooden boards, to place on the deformed area and apply pressure. Let the mat gradually regain its shape under pressure.
- Principle:
Make the material reshape through external pressure.
- Caution:
Choose flat heavy objects to avoid excessive local pressure causing new deformations. Adjust the pressure application time according to the degree of deformation. For example, if your mat is severely deformed after being stepped on hard, you might consider this approach.
Special Precautions
1. Cleaning issue:
Before any restoration operation, it's best to clean the floor mat first to avoid dust, stains, etc. affecting the restoration effect. At the same time, the restored mat also needs to be kept clean and regularly washed to extend its service life. Just like you would clean your car regularly, make sure to give your floor mat a good cleaning too.
2. Safety issue:
The restored floor mat should be firmly installed and not slide during driving to ensure driving safety. Check if the mat fits closely to the vehicle floor. If necessary, use non-slip mats or fixing devices. For instance, you don't want your mat to move around and interfere with your driving.
3. Material inspection:
If the mat shows damage, cracks, or material aging during the restoration process, it should be replaced with a new one in time to ensure driving safety and a healthy interior environment. Just like you would replace worn-out tires, a damaged floor mat needs to be replaced for safety reasons.
