I spent an hour this morning to get an appraisal on my 22 Maverick from CarMax I was asking $36,000 so they aren’t too far off .

Try Carvana, they're usually higher. I saw your for sale post, let me know how you make out. I'm in NH and will be doing the same thing sometime in July.

It varies from week to week. We are selling my wife's 22 XLT Hybrid next week in prep for her Lariat Hybrid being built. Carvana was lowest at $32K, Carmax was at $34K and local Ford dealer came in at $35K, so going with dealer.

I have to hold off until I definitely know when the Lariat is finally confirmed in production. Carmax is $32k and a dealership offered $31,300. I’ll keep you posted if I change anything

Just remember if you trade in your XLT at the same dealership you get your Lariat from you will pay around 3k less in sales tax.

Varies by state - not all states have sales tax, not all give a sales tax credit for trade-ins, some states have a cap on the credit, etc.

Looks like for @Blueskies, in Massachusetts, the full trade-in value is eligible when traded to a dealer.

https://www.mass.gov/guides/motor-vehicle-and-trailer-sales-and-use-tax#-trade-in-credit-

Trade-in Credit
If a motor vehicle or trailer is traded-in or exchanged for another motor vehicle or trailer, the tax is computed as follows:
Sales by registered dealers/lessors
If the sale is done as part of doing business, and the buyer either:
  • Paid a tax on the vehicle traded-in, or
  • Is exempt from tax on the vehicle traded-in
The sales tax is based on the sales price minus the trade-in amount.
Casual and isolated sales
No reduction in taxable sales price is allowed as a result of a trade-in.
