So most of you have probably read about our ordeal, being drug through the mud for 6 hrs, to finally get the original deal (MSRP) that we were offered.

Okay so a friend of mine asked me a very fair question..... "WHY would this dealer come all the way down from $38K to $23K if this truck was in such crazy high demand, they could sell it for $30K+ the very next day ??? I mean, I could see them dropping it maybe $2K or $3K just to be done with it.... But it really would make no since to drop it $15K, all the way down to MSRP, if they really felt they could get a good chunk more for it ?

And let me ask this again to see if I can get a current consensus; So say I had been living under a rock for the last year and a half, and just found out about the Maverick today. IF I walked into a dealership today, and tried to order the Maverick Hybrid, how long do you suppose that would take to get ? I know they seem to be quite popular right now, but the fact that they dropped all the way from $38K to $23K makes me somewhat skeptical. How much are dealers REALLY selling these trucks for ? NOT what are they trying to get from clueless folks who don't know any better. That one is easy .... $38K at our dealership.

The MSRP is above what the dealer pays for the vehicle. So even if they sell it at Suggested Retail Price they are still making money. I hear what you are saying about why not sell for $38k instead of $23K? Well, when you signed your order, that was the agreed-upon price. You got that deal for ordering before demand became higher. They can order as much stock as they want and sell it off the lot for $38k all day if they want, but when you special order at retail price, you should get it for that.

I'm not sure where your ordeal is posted, but was it your order, or was it a stock order? Maybe they tried to get one over on you, even though you agreed to MSRP? Could've not wanted you to contact Ford to complain, I've read that Ford is frowning on these things and maybe penalizing dealers with less allocation, when you agreed upon a certain price.

Customer orders should be at MSRP and minus any incentives (currently none a.f.a.i.k) or discounts they qualify for, unless specified at the time of order. Mark up your stock orders all you want though.

I would point out to your friend that you had an agreement with the dealer about price point.

If he feels it's cool to change the price going up maybe he should become a car salesman. I todays climate he would fit right in.

Oh, he certainly wasn't siding with the dealership. He thought what they were trying to pull was BS.
He was just surprised that they didn't just tell us, "We are sorry but we can only come down to like $35 or 32K, or whatever, and when we walked out, they could turn around and sell it for much higher" ? I mean if the demand is so high they could get by with this, why wouldn't they ?
