Brake change issue

[Upstate]

Just recently went to ford to do 2 recalls
low and behold at 20000 miles my rear brakes will need changing soon
rear brakes don’t usually go until 30000 to 40000 miles !
so I ordered front and rear discs and pads from Detroit axle
got to be better than stock
guess what can’t change the rears unless you retract the parking brake
coincidentally how is it my maverick after leaving the dealership
wont go into brake service mode
think the dealer disabled this feature so you can’t get your rear brakes
done outside the dealership

any body have this issue
and I don’t have a scanner but even my mechanic scanner wouldn’t work
any way around it

I doubt the pads are worn out. Did you look at them yourself or did the dealer say 'you'll be needing rear brakes soon'?

There is no way to disable entering the brake service mode. Your doing it wrong.

My 2011 Genesis Coupe had 101,000 miles on it when I sold it. The original brake pads were still OK. My 2016 GC had 60K miles on it and the pads were fine. My 2018 Caddy has almost 80K miles on it, and will probably make to 100K before pads need to be changed. I do try to anticipate stops and minimize my need to brake. Guess it works pretty well Sounds like the dealer is trying to take you to the cleaners.

My 2020 Escape currently has 64,000 with all the original breaks (and I tow often and long distances in the winter to go snowmobiling), though the dealer did say the rears will need changing soon. But that will be up to whoever sells/buys the Escape. Trading it in, new Maverick due at the dealership next week. Thirteen plus months wait. lol

Am I missing something here, or is my knowledge old-school and out of date, but isn't most of the braking done by the front brakes? Therefore, the front pads wear out sooner than the rear pads? Do you tow? 20,000 miles on the rear brake pads seems very early. I'm with the others. Maybe the dealer didn't mean you needed to replace the pads, but the pads show wear which after 20k miles is to be expected. I would get a second opinion.

No I don’t tow . It 85% highway driving .
outside of the cap I don’t load it .
that was my thoughts. I have had big cars and little cars , none of them needed rear brakes at 20000 ,
miles.
front brake yes , I know I need those I feel the rotors are warped slightly

RE: New rear pads at 20k = I will give the service writer the benefit of the doubt and say he confused your vehicle with one belonging to another customer. Then I would get a second opinion. You say 85% highway, I'll be conservative and say only 80%, meaning 16k of your 20k is highway so your pads have + - 4k use???

Something is not right. ABS hanging up? Other issues keeping brakes engaged? Next time you make a distance run, stop and feel the temp of the rear rims and tires then feel the front rims and tires. If the rears are much warmer, then there is an issue. Question: Do you brake with your left foot?

I agree with Eric. No way you should need brakes unless there is something wrong. I'd contact Ford as even if they refuse warranty, I'd think they'd like to know how this could happen.

Thank for all the help .
I sent all the brake parts back.
Will order just the fronts . The pads are good but the rotors are pulsating .
I go for annual inspection in December ,
If they find the rears low then I will deal with it .
I don’t go to ford for inspections.
That’s just asking for your credit card $$$
