It was one of uhaul two axle vehicle trailer (not sure the weight) and the vehicle was 2002 honda civic being towed figured 2500 lbs and tow vehicle was 2002 ford explorer. They wouldn't rent to me so i had to borrow another tow vehicle from a friend (Cadillac escalade).

Yeah half ton has lost its meaning over the years but for ford i think f150 half ton, f250 three quarter and f350 one ton. Maverick would be quarter ton going by ford standards.

Rent the U-Haul from a dealer NOT a U-Haul center. Most of the time they just want to rent anything they can get.

I think you all are confusing what a half ton is. A traditional half ton came from old trucks could have a payload of 1000 pounds but had nothing to do with tow capacity. Modern half trucks can exceed this amount. Usually, a half ton truck can haul about 3,000 pounds in its bed and tow up to 9,000 to 10,000 pounds depending on the powertrain.

Which the maverick is not is that class.

Here is the 2021 ford half ton specs.. As you can see the maverick doesn't even come close https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...IQFnoECBoQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0T1v_dQr1eCn8lTDPFdTHX
In all seriousness the old 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton terms need to be dumped in the dust bin of history, all it does is cause constant confusion.

U-Haul has a blanket policy to not rent car trailers to Explorers. They had issues in the past with it and the policy is not to. Last time I needed to do that I went with an F-150 that was not capable of towing cross country, picked up the trailer, dropped it on my Explorer and did 1200 miles before dropping it off after at a dealer that didn't care.

That document is for the f150 my idea of what a half ton is, as seen above.

When I bought my 2015 F-150 I investigated payload ratings for the (then new) F150's. I even created a thread on the F150forum, see here: https://www.f150forum.com/f82/post-your-payload-332538/

These trucks DEFINATELY quality for "half-ton" and the payloads ranged from about 1200# to 2300# or so. (I will look for my spreadsheet which appears to be lost, the forum link doesn't work.)

So do you think they will tell a 2015 F-150 Lariat owner with a 1400# payload that it doesn't qualify as a "half-ton"? No especially since 1400>1000. Because having a half-ton F150 from 2015 over2100# payload was a RARE thing w/o the HD tow package (which was in turn a rare thing). I know because I looked for one and ended up finding a non HD w/a 2049# payload.

ETA: I *think* I found my spreadsheet, see share link: https://1drv.ms/x/s!AmhZOwhdychqgpM4rvYm4cla56e_Ag?e=92G2Vh
I need to re-up on F150 and spend some time updating it.
