MaverBought a used Maverick (1500 miles) and have now driven it another 15,000 trouble free. Today my Apple carplay starts to fail. 1. Won't respond to inputs (all the lower bar options (music, maps, etc). The USB port no longer works, the radio won't adjust the volume or the station when using the knobs, radio wouldn't turn off once I parked and removed the key, backup camera not working, for about 20 minutes only the Ford icon was displayed. the display/radio had some type of melt down.
I plan on disconnecting the battery thinking it's like unplugging a router. Have an appointment with Ford next week. Anyone had similar issues which were resolved?

Much appreciated. Thanks

Hi there! Would you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership name and location? I’d like to look into this concern on my end.

I have problems with carplay all the time. I will plug in my iphone and it will charge but never get recognized by the vehicle. Happens about once a week intermittently. Tried different cord and usb port and it doesn’t matter. Have all the latest updates through dealer and over air from home. I just accept that it’s gremlins.

Every vehicle I have driven with any kind of CarPlay has intermittent connectivity issues. Good luck tracing them down, but it's almost always a bug in iOS/CarPlay and compatibility with the head unit. Apple puts out up to 15 or so updates a year. Shit breaks, gets fixed, breaks again. Beyond frustrating. I've used the usb C and B port and changed out lightning cables. I suspect iPhone 15 with the USB C does a better job. Happens in 22, 23, 24 Ridgeline and Pilots I drive. Happened on an Audi A6 rental I had. Oddly enough, my most consistent connection is my wireless adapter. But if I'm relying on Waze, the half second delay is a long time at any appreciable driving speed.

My profession is related to the non-maverick side of this equation, this is accurate. The mobile device software gets an update, the vehicle updates come later and have to react to it, but there's a delay in that process. If you have automatic updates enabled on the phone, it might update a couple times before Ford has time to find out what they need to change, develop and release those updates, and the cycle repeats.

There's security and feature related reasons to keep the phone updated, but if the relationship between phone and vehicle is your priority, sticking with known-good combos between them is best. Personally, I have auto-updates disabled on both the phone and truck, never any issues between them because I manage the software versions manually. That said, never underestimate the usefulness of a reset in the infotainment system, and network settings reset on the phone, fresh starts when they start getting out of sync.

Any issues with specific vehicles that they request info about is always in private. Many reasons for that, but a big one is that anybody with similar issues down the road is going to get google results that point to this thread, and the cause of your issues might not be the same as someone else's, they need to isolate a cause and be sure it's a widespread issue before any official solutions can be offered to the public. Apple doesn't comment directly on their support forums, Comcast either, and MTC isn't even Ford's site. This is a pretty common approach, and honestly pretty cool of them to offer to look into it, outside of their usual support channels. There's likely multiple people that use that account on Ford's behalf also, or the position there managing it could change over time.

🤓 Don’t discount the most common failure points. HARDWARE! Cables, connection points and similar issues behind the dashboard. Just discovered that my IPhone lighting port was full of dirt via a toothpick cleaning effort. At same time noticed USB truck side connection intermittent via a physical cable wiggle. Cable replaced. CarPlay inconsistent operation seems never ending. Software update syncing issues?? TBD

Yup,

Happened to me this morning, with less than 900 miles in the truck. Came here looking for insights.

I'll try the reset you mention and also check fuses, thought obviously the display module is getting power. More than likely software?

I'm me here but I have issues with car play/the infotainment unit intermittently. Most often it just gets stuck with the screen on but no audio will work, you can't hit any buttons, etc. Turning off the car isn't enough. It has to completely go into standby mode after however long then it usually works again. I've also had it appear to be functioning (shows car play correctly, you can hit buttons that appear to work) but there was no audio until you adjusted the volume knob. When you adjusted the volume knob, it sounded like star wars blasters. It seems like Ford needs some serious software bug fixes/updates. I have a couple videos showing these issues if that helps anyone.
