To use apple car play from iphone do you have to use the usb c in dash or will the regular usb work

The hub inside the dash splits power and data. The data runs through a usb mini port regardless of using usb-a or usb-c.

I would really love to hide my Android Auto adapter in the dash somewhere and not have to plug it in at the normal location. Anyone figure out how to tap into the data line to the radio somehow? I'm trying to figure out a way to add a USB splitter behind the dash somehow. I have an XLT so no SYNC.

So is it possible to add another data port somewhere in the truck? You said the data is split by the hub... what hub?
