Per title, looking for a dap that will work with sync 4. Usb and portable HD sounds ok but not as good as I remember my dap playing in my last vehicle.

I can't get my cd player to play thru the dash USB port. It just says USB powered but doesn't give me any "play" or other "buttons" on display.

I just ordered a bluetooth portable cassette player, I'm sure you could get an adapter to output bluetooth to the ford head unit.

The OS for Sync 3/4 would need to have the proper device drivers installed for your CD and/or Media player to be recognized. Then Sync 3/4 would need an app capable of accessing the device to use it for playback. AFAIK Sync 3/4 can recognize USB thumb-drives and iOS/Android powered phones.

If you can find the correct device drivers and can somehow side load them into the Sync OS you might get it to work but I hardly think it is worth the trouble. Also it could brick the infotainment system and/or void the warranty.

If you want to play a CD, just use a CD ripper program on your PC/Laptop to rip your CD to MP3s and load them on a thumb drive. For a digital media player simply use your PC to transfer/copy the files to a thumb-drive.

I have a thumb-drive w/ over 6000 tracks on it and playlists to sort them. Sync 4 recognizes all the songs & playlists. Haven't had any significant issues thus far.

You can get 3.5mm jack to bluetooth audio, then you can go walkman in, minidisk in, CD in, 8 track portable in, vintage 1999 MP3 player in, DAT, portable vinyl LP player in, reel to reel tape, wire recorder from Grandpa's stint in the OSS...

My friends bottom tier Hyundai will play any dap that has been plugged in. Along with usb and hd. Bluetooth signal does not include any changes or enhancements made on physical device. I have my entire music catalog on a portable hd, over 18,000 songs and have been using it with no problems in Maverick. A dap provides much better signal
