I have a Brake Buddy Select 3 which I use in my 2025 Maverick Lariat Hybrid. My problem is the when the brake buddy activates it slams on the brakes and locks up all 4 wheels on the Maverick. Even when it’s on lowest PSI setting (10 lbs) and on Hybrid selection. I spoke to Hopkins (the manufacturer) and they said they couldn’t assure the select 3 would work with any hybrid Maverick due to the electric brakes. But it worked fine with my 2023 Maverick Lariat!

I’d like to take it apart to put a psi limiter in the air line from the actuator to reduce the pedal pressure. But I’ve taken out all the screws and still can’t pry the top off.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi, I do not have your system, I do have an "RVI" system, and the first time I used it, going from a non-hybrid car, to my hybird Maverick, it also locked up. I found the my brake type setting was wrong, there are two types of systems, vacuum and active. I had to change my setting. Here is the bad part, I can not remember if the Maverick is active or vacuum, lol. The RVi has an control hub to change the settings, not sure about your system. Hope this helps.

My Brake Buddy has a setting specifically for Hybrid vehicles. But Hopkins won’t assist in figuring out how to manage the Maverick. The Mav has electric assist not vacuum assist brakes and should be accommodated by the hybrid setting. But it’s too strong, even at 10psi.

I finally did get the brake buddy apart. It requires taking the handle apart in order to split the upper and lower sections. Once I did that I found one of the pieces of the system had broken from its base of support. I’m not sure if that is part of the problem, but I will secure it back into place and add a pressure limiter to the air circuit and see how that works. In the second photo you can see my fingers holding the part that has become unsecured.
