My maverick will remain 100% Motorcraft, Filters and all.
2008 Toy Tacoma 2.7Ltr 528,000 miles on a K&N drop in,
1996 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 Ltr EFI 394,000 on a K&N drop in,
2010 Mustang, Pony package, 4.0 Ltr cast Iron V-6, surprisingly fast in the corners. Sold with 154,000 miles on the clock, ran like new, on a K&N drop in.
2008 Harley Davidson sportster 1200 roadster, Stage one when new to 38,000 flawless miles, on a K&N drop in.
Never had a single problem while running a K&N
But,
They are a PIA to clean, I kept and wore out many of my rides and one of my K&N's
I actually wore out a K&N in the half million mile Toyota. That's right, at 320,000 miles i was loosing HP fast. Top speed down to 60 mph, I had wore out the filter, I limped into an Autozone and bought a paper air filter. back to full power on the way out of the parking lot.
You Buy Two filers and keep a clean, oiled, prepped filter in a sealed bag In the back of the Refrigerator, you know, cold air Intake.

Figured I would update. I have been running a kn for 40k miles now.
not a single blackstone test came back with excessive silica. I use mine off road a lot. Last one was in back country CO and two trips to the sand dunes.
I will send in this next sample cause it has a lot of towing and a full week of 8-10 hours a day in the dustiest conditions I’ve been in in the Texas hill country. If it doesn’t show silica from that I’m not worried at all. Even if it does I will still more than likely us them. As stated I have never had any ill effects like oil consumption or engine failure and I keep my vehicles forever. Heck my least mileage one currently beside my maverick is my wife’s 2.0 edge kn filter and e30 tune since first week of ownership. 280k on it now.
