One more thing, @Venavatio

I had another quick look at your set up and I wanted to confirm you have the trailer safety chains crossed underneath the trailer tongue when they come forward and are hooked onto the truck?

Reason I ask, is that if they are crossed, in the event your Hitch becomes disconnected, the idea is that the trailer Hitch will fall onto the chains and not just fall straight to the ground or pavement...we don't want that...in case the hitch digs in or catches while you are doing 62 mph...would seriously ruin a nice day.

Doing this may save the truck and trailer as you would slow down and pull over while using the trailer brake controller to keep the trailer from hitting you from the rear.

Don't laugh, all these things have happened to somebody somewhere...and some make it onto YouTube I imagine.

Have a good day,

Andy

Hi Andy,

Thanks again for your keen observations and thoughtful advice!

Regarding the weight distribution, you're absolutely right about the importance of balance. Currently, we’re mainly doing family trips to campsites with full hookups (water and electric). To keep things light and safe, I usually carry only about 10–20L of drinking water in the truck bed, and I keep both the fresh and grey water tanks on the trailer completely empty while driving.

I definitely plan on trying some dry camping in the future, and I’ll be sure to re-evaluate the tongue weight and overall balance once I start hauling more water. Safety is definitely my top priority.

Also, regarding the safety chains—they are indeed crossed! Because they are a bit long for the Maverick, I used some zip ties to secure the slack to the trailer tongue to prevent them from dragging on the ground. That might be why they looked a bit unusual in the photos.

Thanks again for the tips

Hi Andy,

Just wanted to give you a quick update and say thanks again for your professional advice!

After I installed the battery, propane tanks, and other accessories on the trailer, I noticed the nose was still sitting a bit high. To prioritize towing safety and prevent any potential sway, I decided to follow your suggestion and swapped my 2-inch drop hitch for a 4-inch drop. **

The trailer looks much more level now, and the overall setup feels a lot more stable on the road. Your reminder really helped

Thanks again for looking out for me. Hope you have a great time.

Best regards,

WD

The trailer jack foot is very close to the ground. I'd take it off completely for travel. It will hit the ground and do major damage.

Thanks for letting me know, I will remove the stand when towing the trailer next time.
