I need help with a weird sound my truck is making. It happens after the engine turns back on from electric mode and it sounds like a fan or something hitting something else. Like something metallic knocking around or grinding on something. It only happens at street speeds. It's not the noise there's a software update for. I've listened to videos of that and it's not the same, although I have heard that sound before too. But this one happens sporadically so it's hard to get a video of. It is happening more often as time goes on. Anyone know what I'm talking about and maybe what was done about it?

So in EV already moving, say 25 mph and above, and the ICE is brought in due to power desired being higher than 10%, or HVB on low charge.
Does it happen at idle RPM when ICE is needed, or 1st drive of day when it's kept at idle until warmed up, then engaged with RPM going up?

So during EV mode, the generator motor was already spinning at an RPM ratio to traction motor to keep the ICE from spinning.

When the ice is called for it changes the RPM depending on the speed so the ICE is brought on.

So both traction and generator motors are being used at varying RPM already - no problem sounds coming from the planetary gear or the bearings holding those items since already in use.

But the damper comes into play with the ICE coming on, tries to remove some of the shock of spinup.
Still under warranty for mileage?

Hey-

That post was confusing as hell.

In short: if the sound occurs during the transition from EV to hybrid or from hybrid to EV the damper is highly suspect.

I could yay or nay if you post some sounds.

Try recording while in park with the hood open ( and you outside of the truck). The damper will rattle whether you are moving or not. Just the engine needs to cycle.
