So I bought another car last summer, not knowing if I would A. Be able to order the Maverick, and B. Get it in a reasonable amount of time. So got some gear for said car, but now pivoting to put that gear in the new car.

So the one item I really wanted to try was a wideband 2". Basically its a driver that covers a ton of the frequencies a midrange and tweeter would cover. I bought this system, with the idea I would put the crossover in the door and just run this off 4 channels of an amp with the an active crossover. CDT Audio Wideband 3A

The question is, is there enough room for this driver in the dash? Possibly if I just take the stock dash grills and just drill a hole in the top and mount them to the factory grille?

Without cutting away at the area the factory tweeter occupies, no. There is room under that spot in the dash but there is no way to easily mount these in that spot.

@All4spl -Got a different set of question's - Its been awhile since I messed with car audio- Do folks just cut the soldered cable leads that connect to the B/O Factory center speaker and splice in a new harness for the infinity 3.5 ? What harness or means of using new speaker wire/terminals for the upgrade ? Final question since the OEM center cover doesn't sit all the way flat does double stick tape keep it hunkered down ? Thx -

I have an XLT so not 100% sure on your answer on the grill portion, as for the wiring part that could be either soldered or clip it back then do spade terminals on the remainder to connect to the aftermarket speaker.

Think your link goes to the wrong product. The wideband 2" appears to be this: https://cdtaudio.com/main_series/wideband/wb_drivers/es02ex_wbdr.php

You could fabricate a mount that entirely replaces the factory tweeter grille, remove the 1" factory tweeter plastic ring, and I'm pretty sure the less than 2" mounting depth these want is no issue.

It's the Unity 8 (I bought it as a component set with 6.5" mids and crossovers).

That's the idea, fabricate. Hopefully fabricating means cutting a 2" hole in the grille, reinforcing it underneath then dropping it in without having to chop anything else (and then buying a new set of grilles to keep in case I sell the car).

I assume you haven't been in there yet, and also I've only been into my dash tweeters once and probably won't repeat that again unless someone I know locally buys a Mav and asks for help.

anyway, the grille is very flimsy and anchors at the edges as you'd expect. the 1" stock tweeter is suspended in a ring-shaped plastic mount and there is a pretty large cavity below it. I reached in there and felt around, and stuck my bass blockers in there easily.

I did see one guy who cut the grille and mounted a tweeter on it, but a 1" dome is so much lighter and smaller than your 2" coaxial that I can't recommend trying to use the factory grille like that.

A skilled fabricator could surely make a mount that fits in there. I for sure cannot, LOL.

I have a 1.5 inch tweeter in mine now, will be putting my 2.5 wideband in mine as well, but I had to Dremel to get my tweeter to fit, and you don't have a lot of space before hitting your ac ducting underneath, my tweeter is almost touching it.

I would get a second set of tweeter covers and just see how the wideband sits on it and then just use the frame from it and cover with speaker cloth to get the added height

nice, that's exactly what the OP is asking.

I forgot I took a pic like that. I removed the trim ring from my tweeter and it fit actually a bit loosely, so I used double-stick tape on it.

it seemed to me like there was room for the OP's 2" which says 1.3" mounting depth, but he'll have to get in there and measure.

I'll be honest I have a massive tweeter that has a cnc chamber on the back end lol, main reason I'm almost hitting the back of the ac duct.
