Sure, they market it as a truck but when it really comes down to how it was built and what they consider it to be, the Mav is a car with a pickup bed.

When I look up a Maverick in the FORD parts catalog, it's listed under the car section, not trucks. So, to answer your question, FORD says it's a car. After driving mine for almost 3 years I miss my good old 2000 Ranger.
