When I was selling tonneau covers, we'd check for watertight installation by having someone climb in the bed with the cover and tailgate closed. Then we'd go around the outside with a flashlight so we could see where light (and water) came in. That told us where weatherstrips were needed. I...
There is no refund regardless of how much you get on trade. The tax is paid and the state keeps it. When you trade in, by definition, you are buying something else from that dealer. For that new purchase, you will only pay sales tax on the difference between the trade value and the purchase...
The sales tax is final. I think the previous poster meant that you'll be able to recoup it when you sell the Maverick. As others have noted, you'll likely do better selling it on Carvana, CarMax, or one of the others that are out there.
If you trade it in, the trade-in value will reduce your...

I (and others) used a T-harness to plug into the taillight harness and stay completely independent of the trailer wiring. Works perfectly with all driver aids remaining functional.
At the end of the day, I only care about functionality and price/performance. The current hybrid Maverick doesn't offer the functionality I want (AWD) so I went EB.
In the past, it's been a simple calculation. All other things being equal, how much more expensive is the hybrid and how many...
I used the Putco Split Blade to keep the spare tire access clear but then relocated the lights down to the top lip on the bumper for better visibility. It's wired in to the taillights with a Curt Manufacturing T-harness.
This is what I and others used. It avoids interference with the towing systems:

If you do a search on "tailgate light bar" you'll find multiple posts that include how-to information.
Did mine successfully this afternoon via my mesh WiFi. Once the download started, it moved along reasonably well. Once installed, it took quite a while before the new version showed up in the system software list.
I hadn't been having any issues so we'll see if anything new pops up.
Clarify with the body shop if "won't work" means there is a technical issue (I have trouble believing that) or if the insurance company requires installation of new parts only. If it's the latter, that can be resolved by having the insurance company authorize a used replacement.
I used to own a truck accessories store. We sold a fair number of soft tonneaus that were replacing damaged ones. A few here and there were units that had been cut and one was stolen because the owner left the truck parked with the tonneau open (it was a trifold, so only 2 wing nuts to loosen)...
I was going to say something snarky, but then I saw you're in Maine which makes all the difference. Now if you were from Boston or some other metropolitan area, OP's question would have made perfect sense. ;)
Except for the tailgate cap, it looks like all his hardware can be reused. Complete units were all anywhere from $1100-$1600 +. But they are out there; saw one on eBay.
Our 2018 Fusion is "white", except that there are several shades of that paint code (White Platinum Metallic Tri-coat). The same thing happened with our 2011 Fusion (steel blue in color). The variability within shades of the same paint code drives a painter friend of mine crazy.
