  1. Mice problem in cabin air filter!!!!!

careful how you do this! we got rats inside because an idiot contractor didn't seal around the dryer vent! After fixing that, I got the bright idea to fluff up a bit of steel wool to put in the vent, as rats and mice hate it and won't chew through. I was still feeling pleased with myself when...
  2. Stop stressing. Just drive your Maverick and enjoy 😅

while I have enough tools and parts when I drive a classic for a surprising number of roadside emergency repairs, even I don't carry two sockets of the same size!
  3. Interesting discovery

All of the people that ever bought bought Crown Victorias, Grand Marquis, and the corresponding Town Car for it's handling have a meeting next week. It's in the phone booth on 4th street . . . I loved my '98 Crown Victoria LX. It was a great lawyers' car, and met client expectation. It was...
  4. Does Rotary Shifter suck?

to be clear, the vehicles I'm talking about are not autoreleasing a hold, but rather releasing the parking brake itself when the transmission is placed in gear no throttle required. And the Cadillacs tend to not even have a manual parking brake release lever! however, there is a small lever on...
  5. Stop stressing. Just drive your Maverick and enjoy 😅

yet you're still here . . . 🤔 😱 but didn't you need the same socks wrench to pull the old one? how would that work? 🤔
  6. Key left in ignition

    turn on the engine?
  7. Hybrids are really hard on engines - you tube video

"require" and "benefit from" are not the same thing. It's plausible that oil manufacturers figured out something that benefits the hybrid use cycle. Whether they succeeded or not is a matter of data, not of generalization (and I personally have no idea what the answer is!).
  8. Knee Pads

I'm 6'2". After taking my Miata one way for 350 miles, I wa sin agony. I figured out that it was the lack off thigh support, as I couldn't extend my leg fully. Ny solution was pillows and/or folded towels to support my left leg. The return home was comfortable, as was the 500 miles each...
  9. Stop stressing. Just drive your Maverick and enjoy 😅

go back farther, and the specifications for the car included anticipated oil and water consumption. in the range of a quart of each every hundred miles or so in the 20s, iirc.
  10. Beware of scammers

hmm. they have five, two of which were black. There used to be a much larger line they carried, in three levels/expenses, iirc. And I don't see a window for it with the built in heaters. (replacing the front window with built in antenna is going to be an adventure, too!)
  11. Beware of scammers

wait, WHAT???   As I'm finally getting time to work on these cars, the source I thought I'd found for a roof for my '72 Eldorado Convertible is gone??? :explode:' they had something like three different options for it!
  12. Hybrids are really hard on engines - you tube video

I'm going to make a general observation that since synthetic oil sticks to metal for far longer than conventional oil, I find it entirely possible that the optimal synthetic would be different for a hybrid, which switches on and off frequently, than for a conventional ICE. A accordingly, it...
  13. What is easiest way to get to FM preset

push command button on wheel and site, "tune to 47.5" optionally tack on "FM" at the end of the command. [yess, I realize that that number is out of range!]
  14. Does Rotary Shifter suck?

I think I saw it in the manual (but it might have been on this site). What actually gets me is the failure to release the parking brake when putting in gear; I've long been used to this on my Cadillacs and on the Crown Victoria before that. (Although Cadillac releases in both R & D, while the...
  15. Hybrids are really hard on engines - you tube video

it's not the starting itself, but because oil dripped down off the engine as the car cooled. The wear came from metal to metal before the oil got there. This has been at least heavily ameliorated by synthetic oils: they cling to the metal far longer than conventional oil. If two otherwise...
  16. Goodbye 19s. Hello 17" Fifteen52 + 245/65/17 Open Country AT3

I should probably have mentioned that the car is a '35 Pierce Arrow. I was called out of another car (a '63 or '64 Corvette) to come drive it. Usually the collections use their own drivers, but I'd been designated to old car guy (to my surprise). It was towed (by design, given what it is) to...
  17. Dealer 10k service-- I got got, help me understand how badly

wait a minute; I thought that only modern diesels required that you pee in the tank . . . 🤪
  18. Does Rotary Shifter suck?

Recall! wow, that guy must find driving more inconvenient than you do! 🤪
  19. Is the Mav the best vehicle and value you have ever owned - hybrid only responses.

It took me a couple of weeks to figure out what was so familiar about the drive on the '72 Impala 400 I bought in college. eventually I figured it out: the slight delay in turning the wheel in a GM of that era and the car turning was reminiscent of a friend's father's yacht that I'd driven! 😱...
