For slippery conditions with FX4....
This is what the owners manual says about Sand mode:
"Do not use on firm, slippery surfaces,
such as paved roads covered with snow or
ice or driving on packed snow. For slippery,
firm surfaces use slippery mode."
Instead it suggests using mud/ruts mode...
The backrest part of the seat does not lay down flat and there's no way to secure it down. It also exposes electronics.
The bottom part of the seat can be fixed in an open position... but when lifted up exposes the storage area, maybe thats a safety hazard in a crash ?
Either way I don't think...

In the owners manual it says that mud/rut could help with deep snow.
It says NOT to use sand mode on a snow covered road, instead it suggests using slippery mode, which makes it sound like a standard mode to me.
I attached a link of the most recent order guide which states that the FX4 package will have Normal, Sport, Mud/rut, Sand, and tow/haul.
The owners manual doesn't say anything about what modes are included in the FX4, but there is no "(if equipped)" next to the description of the slippery mode...

Correct, mostly steel.
I'd prefer Aluminum because I live in the rust belt, but I haven't seen rust issues on any Escapes or Edges so I'm not too worried.
