    Thanks, that's helpful and makes good sense. I'd still be curious to hear from someone who has first hand knowledge of how the software makes the calculations if any automotive software engineers are lurking...

    Anyone know for certain how the software calculates mpg? Does it measure the gallons by weight or volume? If you don't reset the trip computer what triggers the new gas reading? I'd be willing to bet it's significantly more prone to error than basic hand math even taking into account filling...

    My XLT reports a lifetime MPG of 38.5 MPG however when I do the hand math it's more like 36mpg. FWIW

    How tall are your dogs at the shoulder? Dog space is a major reason I'm getting the topper, my dog is only knee high at the shoulder though. I ordered the MX thinking I needed the height but would love to get away with a shorter topper. She's smaller than she looks here.

    I was literally just thinking about using extruded channel to build a custom rack to go over a soft topper. Mine would only be for carrying surfboards. Keep us posted if you move forward!

    Just put a deposit down for an MX with OTR coating. I don't love ordering sight unseen but I'm pretty eager for the topper. The dealer mentioned production is scheduled to start in June, hope that's accurate.
