  1. Found a Maverick on the lot today...and I see why.

There is one born every minute!
  2. Axle leaking

My humble opinion, (licensed aircraft mechanic, factory Mercedes Benz mechanic, and retired from building GE locomotive engines), when you lift this vehicle with unibody construction, you are significantly increasing the angle of deflection of the cv joint itself. This puts a higher stress on...
  3. Headlights ice up!

All headlights, even the older hotter ones cannot beat freezing rain. Best advice, stay off the roads especially with your grand daughters.
  4. Maverick or Ranger?

Maverick Ecoboost AWD, 4k towing. I tow my 3500 lb boat with mine no problem.
  5. Maverick or Ranger?

Really important to know how heavy the boat is before offering any opinion.
  6. What do you (will you) miss from your old vehicle in the Maverick?

Front tow hooks. On my old F150, I had made a front hitch that tied into the tow hooks to move my boat and airstream around my driveway. Since I didn't get FX4, that possibility no longer exists without a huge re-engineering of the front end.
  7. Check Engine Light

Please don't be sorry. I figure I am good for about 20 more years barring any catastrophes and I plan to make the Maverick last as long as I do!
  8. Anyone having issues with front CV axles?

A typical truck with a frame lifts the body up off the frame and does not change the geometry of the axles relative to the chassis. On a unibody, I am not sure how the lift is actually achieved. Maybe someone with one can enlighten me. If the lift on the unibody truck increases the operating...
  9. A Maverick and a 10mm Socket

Please do NOT despair. You WILL find it right AFTER you buy a new one!!!!!
  10. Check Engine Light

At 64, this is my last new truck so resale doesn't matter to me.
  11. Check Engine Light

In our county in Pa., the emissions test consists solely of testing the seal of the gas cap. It is ludicrous as more populated counties have real emissions inspections. But for now, it is not a problem. So Ford gets one more chance before the tape comes out! Don't worry though, I WILL use 3M...
  12. Check Engine Light

Mine came on at around 8k miles. 2 trips to the dealer, new part installed, came on the next day. This seems to be an issue with every Ford truck I have ever owned dating back to my first Ranger in 1989. Every one of them ran fine and mileage never suffered. I will give Ford one more try before...
  13. Stupid Narrow PTB wipers

My oem wipers worked fine until I improved them by putting Rainex on my windshield. Now they chatter obnoxiously.
  14. Top speed run number ? ... No lecturing / judging ...

Back in the 70s when the national speed limit was 55, some cars had 80 mph speedometers.
  15. Oil undercoating

I removed all my inside door panels, under body covers, and wheel well liners. I then wrapped tin foil around all electrical connectors. I then mixed equal amounts of bar oil, linseed oil, and kerosene for thinning. I put it in a fruit tree sprayer and sprayed it everywhere. The kerosene thins...
  16. Georgia Steelies & hubcaps for sale

How far are you from Savannah? Mike
  17. Exhaust material - stainless or galvanized steel?

I will wait to spend that money when needed and not before. I bought the vehicle because of the good price and buying a new exhaust to replace a new exhaust makes no economic sense to this old fart! Easy decision!
  18. Exhaust material - stainless or galvanized steel?

Realizing that moisture inside the exhaust absolutely will deteriorate the exhaust, I still cleaned all the welds and seams in the exhaust system and brush painted Eastwood exhaust coating on just prior to coating the bottom of my truck with rust inhibitor. I try to avoid short trips so as to...
  19. Rust prevention ?

I make my own concoction. I mix 1 quart linseed oil with one quart bar oil, then thin it with kerosene, 1-2 quarts. This will spray very nicely with a small fruit tree sprayer eliminating the need for an air compressor and vastly reduces over spray and oil mist from making a mess in your garage...
