Mostly, it's just different. It probably could be better designed, but it's OK. Sometimes, if I'm not paying attention, I put my wife's RAV4 in Low Range rather than Drive, so that system isn't perfect either. My Mav has extra space for an additional cup holder, and that's pretty cool.
