I found it really interesting in the "Make or Break Specs" thread to see all the different ways folks wanted to configure/use the Maverick. It made me wander what other vehicles you thought that you'd be cross shopping as I expect there is a spectrum.
For me:
Tier 1:
New Ranger (if it comes in...
I strongly suspect that the bed will not be 48 wide between the wheel wells. If they're clever, they'll do something like Jeep did on the Gladiator where they flattened off the wheel well covers in the bed and then made an intermediate position for the tailgate so that you can put full width...
Yeah I wish you could keep the standard 100A package with the offroad package. I don't care too much about creature comforts in my vehicles, but I'd like the rear locking differential and the underbody protection. With the Maverick I want the different terrain modes (approximating a locker when...
Just to make sure I didn't make things confusing: The Ranger starts at around 26k. The 36k version is the cheapest you can configure it with the crew cab, 4wd, and the FX4 (off road) package.
Ha yeah that's what surprised me. I want a truck for more clearance than my current vehicles, but I like that someone out there is doing something totally different, variety being the spice of life and all...
Doc, I'm pretty sure that we pretty much have the exact opposite needs when it comes to trucks (and esp. suspensions), but I love that you're doing it!
I agree and what you're proposing sounds like a reasonable solution if you don't REALLY need the long bed. I suspect that creating different body styles is notably more expensive with unibody so unless there is a major incentive, I suspect that we'll see a lot less mix and match cab/bed options...
I'm with you. I generally want the smallest, most efficient vehicle that will comfortably serve my needs 95% and maybe less comfortably up through 99% of them. I'm hoping that the Maverick slides right into that spot, but we shall see!
The Ranger comes in at 35795 with the basic XL trim, crew cab, and 4x4, and off road package but no other options. The cheapest 4x4 crew cab is 32270. With the SuperCab, the lowest trim 4x4 is 29870. The absolute base spec is 26000. I would guess that the Maverick will come in at about 5k below...
I actually love sleeper vehicles, so these are some of my favorite types of special trim level. I'm not really in the market for a street truck, but I'd very much enjoy the existence of a well driving, pest control-looking sleeper.
This is basically exactly what I want, but I do think it somewhat odd that they aren't using something like FX4 nomenclature to tie it to the rest of the truck line or Badlands etc. nomenclature to tie it to the broncos. I don't think of the Explorer or Expedition as the obvious family memberes...
Obviously bragging rights drives part of this, but I think that a lot of the increase in payload in trucks has been driven by them becoming 4-5 passenger vehicles. You stick four average Americans in a vehicle and you're only looking at a couple hundred pounds of payload for a 1000lb payload...
You seem oddly fixated on Priuses when there have been hundreds of thousands of other hybrids sold in the last decade, the Ford Escape - which likely shares architecture with the Maverick - being one of those models. You probably don't even realize when a hybrid Camry, Highlander, Fusion goes...
Well, I'm not really basing my masculinity on my vehicle choice. As the1mrb says, hybrids are currently the best compromise for me between efficiency and range. I just for back from a trip to Death Valley this weekend, camping in a spot with no electric hookups at all, much less car chargers...
Yeah if you're looking at 4 years of a rear facing child seat, I'd definitely look at the rear seat size. Thankfully my wife is a small lady as we had to move one of the front seats forward in our Transit Connect to make our car seat fit when our son was rear facing.
From these images, I'd guess the Maverick will be about ~197 to 200 in, with my guess being closer to the latter. The Bronco is 172.7 in. The Ranger is 210.8. Doing some pixel measuring, it seems like the Maverick is about .935 of the ranger and 1.158 of the Bronco Sport. Obviously the images...
Totally unrealistically, I'm hoping for a hot hybrid version to revive the "Lightning" name. I don't want a lowered street performance oriented truck though, so what I want might not be seen as a good fit. Unless you add some adjustable suspension to my rapidly not-budget truck... ha
