Thank you. Good to compare from around the continent. I've checked my fill cap a few times since my original post and haven't seen it as bad again. I wonder if a good, long run "dissolves" (or re-incorporates?) the gunk... and then it just accumulates again with the short trips. I ain't no...
This still pops up upon starting off... but no chime. Similarly, it will notify visually if an occupant unbuckles... but no chime.
I had someone in the driver seat to do the key on/off while I performed the click/unclick thing in each of the other seats. Not sure the driver's seat HAD to...
Also Hybrid. Also rust-belt. Also rear rotors. I've only got 3000mi on these things and already they're starting to look uneven (same on both sides). These rotors are far from garbage yet, but this can't be expected to get better. Only 3 solid months of salt to go before spring!
Same here; really struggles to get up to operating temp in the colder weather. Driving in 'sport' or 'tow/haul' to keep the ICE running helps, but kinda defeats the purpose of buying a hybrid. I'd be curious if you also observe the 'pudding' under the oil fill cap like I did...
Not sure. The carboard thing that came with them had all the disclaimers about 16,000 really meaning 8,000... and then really only meaning 4,000ea... with a 100% safety margin... which really means 2000ea... if on level ground, on a full moon, low tide, etc. ;)
Don't think I could have changed the oil/filter without ramps.
- there are a boat load of torx screws holding the bottom baffle thing on. The screws toward the rear would be particularly challenging to remove without [safely] lifting the vehicle a bit, imo.
- the factory oil filter seems to...
No. I had checked the oil a few times in 3 months... but never bothered to open the oil fill cap till the day I changed the oil. I'll keep an eye on it. As many have suggested.. I just need to drive it more than to get groceries.
Thank you. That all aligns with what the Ford tech told me, too. This is my first hybrid and I'm now stuck in a catch-22... for exactly what you just said: I purposely bought it for the short, in-town trips we make.
*UPDATE* After visiting Ford service dept:
I was able to speak with a Ford tech at the dealership (not merely a 'service advisor'). He confirmed it's a sign of moisture in the engine and given that there is no other evidence of a head gasket problem, suspects "PCV blow-by". But before jumping...
Thanks. That's reassuring. I know from outboard motors that 'creamy oil' in the bottom end is bad news... so when I opened my Mav oil cap and saw the 'pudding', I freaked a bit. Seems the solution is simply to drive it 🙂
