So I can only speak to my experience, and I'll own it fully LOL
My understanding is the base system (I have XL with no CP360) works up to 45 MPH, will alert you and you can activate emergency braking as an option. I have sensitivity on high, and I kept teasing it to try and trigger it by easing...
We're all having a good time and even with a factory specc'd out truck, I'm sure you've found it wildly interesting! You've got the benefit of warranty on your side, so if your first-year-built truck ends up with issues, you won't have to deal with Ford frantically trying to explain why setting...
And I totally support that too! Just want folks to know the design of the wheel gives you plenty of information long before a dangerous situation could occur! When you get the torque numbers, we'll all have it and be better for it, so thanks for adding to the building knowledge base!
Absolutely agree with this - the interface means the wheel isn't pressure-fitted onto the spindle, so if you happen to have the bolt begin to loosen, it's going to be apparent immediately and -long- before it's a hazard to you. The moment that bolt loosens you'll experience play in the wheel and...
Y'all make this one of my favorite places to visit in the day - love the teamwork and the ideas! I'm definitely picking up a service manual ASAP so nothing will remain a mystery on these trucks for long LOL
I appreciate you asking this, I forgot to take a photo showing why you need both left and right clusters!
To the left is my Cruise Control wheel, and the right is my original non-Cruise Control wheel. You can see that the clusters on both sides are distinct - if you just replace the left...
Saaaame thing I ended up doing LOL
Replacing the left-hand cluster isn't difficult - just take your time so you don't bust the trim. It's a bit of a pain to work loose without feeling like you might break something.
No clockspring replacement needed. I did buy a wheel, but that wheel ended up coming with a switch for Adaptive Cruise Control, so I had to buy a left side replacement switch too.
You can do -just- the switches, but I stress that you'll need both left and right for it to work. They move...
Mission accomplished! I worked through text with @Tyvemattis last night and encountered an issue that's apparently been pretty frequent with these attempts - the inability to write to the SCCM. After a few attempts with the latest FORScan beta with no fruit, I packaged my logs and shipped them...
I'm waiting for Helm Inc to have their digital service manual released to them - Ford hasn't provided it yet. But when they do, you'll be able to get the full service manual from them, and apparently wiring diagrams etc!
Thanks! Work is going late tonight, and in that irritating way where its all hurry up and wait.
I ended up ordering the left cluster for my Escape wheel with the unwanted ACC control to try and salvage an otherwise expensive decoration LOL
I just want to inform all involved purchasing switches only - if you're putting these switches into your XL, you need left and right clusters. They move elements around on the clusters when they took the cruise out, so you will end up with buttons on both sides that do the same thing, and...
So everything electronic that happens on the steering wheel sends communication through the clockspring. If you're trying to add features (and thus buttons) to your steering wheel, you'll need to make sure there's the relevant interface on the clockspring that can send that along to the computer...
Because these controls have to pass through the clockspring (that's how the interface is set up), I'm afraid it would be a nightmare to try and run these through anywhere other than the steering wheel :(
