Just adding this as an update, it was the switch, which burned out the motor :) Dealer says switch won't come back up, so replacement motor and master switch... Which are both on backorder.
I've got three windows for the foreseeable future LOL
Look into PETG, it has the heat resistance you want and it prints open air without too much of an issue (none of that ABS heated chamber stuff)! I've got a bunch of PETG in my truck and it's held up to Florida summer heat like a champ.
Also dang, this has me hankerin' for a radio now...
Because, given it's a vehicle, that idiot driver might end up naturally selecting you as their +1?
It's annoying but I get it, you don't want to be the one manufacturer that looks like it's actively resisting safety features for their drivers (and those around them)
Whelp, hot day, rolled the windows down to dump out the built up heat aaaand
I'll be waiting until Tuesday for the dealership to take a look at it. I'd get in there myself to see what happened, but I'm not risking a warranty rejection. Too much rain in Florida for this shit lol
Edit:
Just...
Sadly Ford has more or less a hard line on this - everything I've read and been told points back to Ford's AS-BUILT policy, which basically means for items like this that they won't install factory cruise on a vehicle that did not ship with factory cruise. They'll point you to third-party cruise...
Hey! You can totally do the swap yourself. I put up a video on how to swap the switches (only video I've been able to do due to new job and no garage + Florida weather):
As for pulling the wiring harness itself, I'm not sure it's needed. The airbag has prong connectors for the euro-style...
Hey! If you're not putting cruise control in your XL, you'll need both modules from your original steering wheel. If you're doing cruise, you can keep the right module of this wheel and only need to replace the left with the US cruise control module (to replace the LIM switch set)
@Tyvemattis Has already done this I believe - the paddles do not work out of the box and there's a long-term exploration ongoing to see if a different dial-shifter (one with "M" for Manual in the center button vs "L") plus FORScan mods could make manual shifting a thing. It's definitely a deeper...
Mine was doing that too, guessing the heat has something to do with it.
Took a piece of Sonic straw wrapper and used it to increase the pressure fit - mission accomplished! ...for now.
You could create an ISO of the disc and then burn the image to a USB and maaaaaybe that would work? Curious... Might have to buy this, a disc drive, then experiment.
Incredibly thorough and detailed write-up! This is on the far off list of things I plan to do, but you guys put something together here that'll make that process easier when the time comes. Thank you for all the hard work!
