The 12-volt hybrid battery does not start the engine. The high voltage battery uses one of the electric motors to start it. Which also means it does not even have a conventional "starter". ✌

You can ruin a perfectly good battery by draining it too low on a regular basis. A top quality FLA battery will sulfate and short out the plates if it is in a constant state of low charge.
