I'm right there with you! At one point, I would rush to get rid of steel rims ... especially with not even hubcaps. But now, as you said, practicality is king. I love the practicality of my XL Maverick and could not care less about the steel rims, plastic dash (after I realized, I've never once...
That's what my wife says too! She drives the Maverick as much as I do, and said at first she kept looking in the rearview mirror for emergency vehicles until she realized it was just Maverick noises. To me, it doesn't seem that dramatic, just that Maverick makes a little bit different hybridy...
Now that the temperatures are starting to consistently be in the 40s & 50s, I've been averaging around the low/mid-40s, though my lifetime average over about 1400 miles is still 33.6 mpg since the first 1000 miles or so were temps between single digits & 20s.
So it sounds like bought back under lemon law? Personally I'd avoid a known problem vehicle. Even if it turns out the issue was fixed, I feel I'd be worried about it for too long.
This is the link you need:
https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/fe_test_schedules.shtml
That page has the following two figures. You'll see they take the vehicle up to speeds of 60 mph.
Define plummeted? It's rated at 33 mpg highway, but it will also depend on how fast you're driving, among other conditions. The Mav is still shaped like a traditional pickup, so it's not aerodynamic and mpg will drop the faster you drive. So if you're, for example, driving 75 mph I'd expect to...
Do you have a source for this? I had trouble finding the historical use of ecvts in Fords & Toyotas, but far as I can tell, the 2nd generation Prius (2004-2009) used a planetary gear ecvt, and the 2009 Fusion was the first Ford with an evct.
Doh! Had similar things happen too. Once had a package arrive in my town in NY ... then next day it was in California. Fortunately it think it was flown back to NY instead of driven, so the delay wasn't too bad.
Another time my package, mailed from continental US, got a vacation through Guam...
You're right, 5 is quite a bit off. I would try a few more times, filling up the same exact way, to get an average difference over a few tanks. Is this the first time doing a manual calculation, or have you done it before and this seems to be the norm for your Mav?
Last time I did it for mine it was off about 1.5 mpg. I think Mav told me about 38.5 mpg, and calculated was 37 mpg ... or something like that. Frankly, my Prius v consistently told me fuel economy was 2.0 mpg higher than calculated, so I wasn't terribly surprised.
But, with temps in mid 30s...
Depending on the quality of the components, couldn't a potential issues be corrosion of the systems internal components? Like my old home heating oil tank. Home heating oil is hygroscopic, and the tank rotted from the inside out.
As for automatically applying, that seems more fuzzy:
The electric parking brake switch is on the center console.
Pull the switch up.
The red warning lamp flashes during operation and illuminates when the parking brake is applied.
Note: You can apply the electric parking brake when the...
According to the owners manual, the Mav will release it automatically:
Automatically Releasing the Electric Parking Brake
Close the driver door.
Shift into gear.
Press the accelerator pedal and pull away in a normal manner.
From the 2025 Mav user manual:
Applying the Electric Parking Brake in an Emergency
You can use the electric parking brake to slow or stop your vehicle in an emergency.
Pull the switch up and hold it.
The red warning lamp illuminates, a tone sounds and the stoplamps turn on when you use the...
That's what I would have assumed ... seems normal and reasonable to me. But, I see 3 people with 2025s who've now had this warning now appear: myself, camcdono, and Tom H.
This confuses me. You were in Park, accidentally hit the parking brake, and then got this warning?
Isn't putting the parking brake while in Park be the time to use the parking brake?
I haven't looked at it close enough myself to really know. After looking around a bit, I get what the message is actually saying now:
1) Shift System Fault - Ummm ... I can't put your Mav into Park
2) Confirm park brake Apply before exiting the vehicle - Yeah, make sure you put your parking...
I'm not sure either, it does seem strange that the shift system fault is tied to the parking brake. I just know when I went to exit the vehicle, it then told me it wasn't in Park (though the "Brake" light and "P" were both lit). So I really don't know ... hoping a fluke, but odd that someone...
