Yeah, I forgot to mention in my previous post that the RS117 is 11ft and 7 inches long. That leaves about 4ft 9 inches hanging out past the bed the way I have it here. Couple thoughts:
Depending on the size of your kayak, you could put it up on the j-racks, like I have with the 10 ft kayak, and...
For those that followed on my previous post https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/forum/threads/thule-xsporter-mid-pro-bed-rack-is-a-great-fit-on-2022-maverick.5782/ about the Xsporter MId Rack being a nice fit, some asked to see it with a kayak up top for clearance reference. Finally got a break in...
So funny, I just mentioned this to my son the other day when we were going down the road. Not a big deal, of course, but I just said you'd figure someone would have seen that in some sort of test driving. Then again, at 20K starting point, maybe they did and just moved along!
I don't have the dimensions, but this is the one I ordered for $32 bucks and it has worked great for our two dogs for the past couple weeks. Isn't snug fit, but isn't too small either.
They have velcro pass throughs for seat belt clips, and a zip down section if you have a rear center console...
Yeah, funny thing is, I keep my RS117 on a rolling cart that was exactly the same height as my truck bed, so I would just roll that out to my truck, lock the wheels, then slide it right off into the truck bed. Do it all in reverse to store it back into the garage. Then I use the space underneath...
Longest kayak I have is 12" right now, and when I load them all up and haul my boat, my set up is usually 3 up on top--two 10ft on Jracks, and the 12 foot in between--and one sitting in my boat. Only do that whole setup about once a year though.
Btw, yesterday I did a quick test with some...
I think it's doable, but I think it isn't cheap :)
You could get a Retrax Pro locking aluminum cover with T-rails and then get a compatible rack system. I think even that Yakima posted above has the option to mount via t-rails. Heck, looking at it now, makes me think I could convert mine to do...
Nope, these were just a used set that ReRack had. In fact, the guy had never heard of the Maverick and didn't think they'd work, based on what he saw online, but I was pretty sure they'd go on just like my old Harbor Freight racks fit on my Dakota, and they do work pretty much the same. The only...
My guess is probably not due to the mounting system, which basically wraps around the top, side and bottom of the bed rail. You'd probably need one that mounts into a T-rail system on top of the bed, so you could still put the cover under it, or next to the T-rail.
Here's a picture (not of me...
Good options. I usually just use the J-racks for some inexpensive Lifetime fishing kayaks that I take for buddies who don't have any, and I toss my Bonafide in the back of the truck. (Sometimes I go nuts and squeeze a tandem kayak inbetween the two lifetimes and get all four with me.)
The XSporter Pro 500XT was the model I started out looking at because it's basically the same thing, with adjustable height. I figured I could get it up above the cab when I need it, and then drop it down below when I wasn't using it. That would probably fit the bill for what you want, unless...
I got mine at ReRack.com in Portland, OR--about an hour from where I live. They had a used set that were like new, at about half the price, but I've seen them at all the rack outlets and REI too.
I think this is very similar to the Yakima rack that Ford is selling as part of their accessories, but that rack stands about 13" tall, where the Thule stands 16" tall. This hits right at the top of the back of the cab. To clear the top of the majority of the cab, you need a good 17-17.5", not...
