Your analogy makes sense. But Ma Bell and her progeny didn't face an entirely new technology to compete with. You won't lose money betting on any large corporation doing everything they can to stay solvent. However there is this,
"Many oil companies are investing in renewable energy these...
Also had a Volt and then a Honda Clarity, both discontinued. The Volt was a much better car but smaller than the Clarity. Currently I have a Maverick Hybrid and a Mustang Mach E. I like the having the fuel flexibility until charging stations replace gas pumps altogether.

At ease hard charger, just making an observation. I didn't mention EVs per capita. I was merely pointing out that the term rural is subjective where as population per square mile is not. I even quoted your comment, "I would hardly call Utah "'largely rural." Again, no mention of EVs per capita...
" I would hardly call Utah "'largely rural.'"
Statistics can prove just about anything. According to the same website you referenced, Utah is 11th in least populated states in the US. Rural is subjective, how many people live in a state per square mile is not. Statistics can tell you that a...
I wasn't disagreeing with you, only adding additional information. Just FYI, here are other countries' plans for ICE vehicles.
2025 in Norway
Norway is the trailblazer in ending the reign of ICE vehicles, with only zero-emission new vehicles—either battery electric or hydrogen—to be sold from...
Every Forum has their "RTFM" or "It's been asked before" grinches. Why they care I have no idea. It's not like they are paying for the site's bandwidth. Ignore them, they add nothing to the conversation. You asked a question that I've been wondering about myself, thanks.
The infrastructure for EVs is huge compared to the infrastructure for ICE vehicles when the were introduced. We went from zero gas stations to the system we have today with out going bankrupt. We'll do it with EVs as well.
People keep talking about the lack of infrastructure for EVs. Probably 50% or more of the needed infrastructure for EVs is already in existence; electricity in the home. When ICE vehicles were introduced there was no infrastructure for fueling. You couldn't go into your garage and pump gas into...
I can't see an automobile manufacturer knowingly putting a component on an engine that would cause a premature failure. It certainly wouldn't be in their best interest financially or reputation wise. I imagine extensive testing was done on engines with the smaller oil filter.
I have a large solar array and I basically charge my Mustang Mach E for free. I'd be more interested in a PHEV Maverick than a full EV. More fuel flexibility until EV charging stations become as ubiquitous as gas stations.
Look, the driver can select the driving mode without violating EPA laws or directives. Currently, a driver can always manually set ECO mode before moving the vehicle and never use whatever mode the EPA certified. How would allowing the driver to select ECO mode as the default driving mode, in...
