Next day, the rat built another nest and chewed a wire 😖
I sprayed the engine compartment with diluted peppermint essential oils. I’m also parking the car farther away from the house and facing the street. No visitors since.
This may have been a female rat looking for a spot to raise her young...
Quick 5K+ update.
Took Mighty Mav for a weekend in Paso Robles (wine region)
Left the house on Thursday at 4 pm and had to deal with LA’s rush-hour traffic. Drove 260 miles, 5’40” non-stop! No complaints from my back or most importantly my wife.
Starting to appreciate more the simplicity of the...
I need to check CraigsList for a barn cat!
We had few days of rain and sure enough a rat move in under the hood 😖
Irish Spring soap didn’t work. Neighbor recommends spaying peppermint essential oils. We’ll see 🤞🏻

Mighty Mav turned 3K miles on this rainy day in SoCal!!
It’s everything I expected from a $30K hybrid vehicle, nothing less, nothing more. Except maybe for a flawless Bluetooth connection and retained drive mode setting.
Drove I-5 / 101 North to Paso Robles, eco mode, no traffic: 36 MPG (368/10.2) (no pics)
Returned I-5 South in eco mode, some traffic in LA: 34.7 MPG (451.4/13). This includes driving for two days on hilly windy roads. (AFE bias is set to 960)
My 2023 XLT hybrid flashes the notification twice second day owning the car. Neighbor and I were laughing that it wasn’t added at the factory. We both looked under the hood and it seemed to be full to the goose neck.
Next day, flashed again. Turns out there was room for at least half a gallon of...
Template needs adjusting but it fits and is removable.
Template is the right size but the plastic cracked during installation. Need to find more durable alrernative.
I was also surprised the rear carpet floor mats were not included with XLT. I would have been OK with paying the extra $X.
Costco has trim-to-fit for $20. But I’ll go with W-mart rubber individual rear rubber mats. Price wasn’t posted.
Carpeted 4 piece set is $16.
I ran out of daylight but my plan is to make a cover out of 3-ring binder divider, or similar flexible plastic. Managed to make a template for the larger rectangular hole, then realized it can be extended to cover the smaller opening.
Took the Mighty Mav clubbing to Costco to celebrate first 500 miles. I treated it to a full tank of gas.
90% city, 10% highway
Mainly 6-12 mile round trips, 2-3 times per day.
