I went with cactus gray for the same reason, my Galdiator is dark gray (granite crystal) and is a little too hot in the summer, especially when I'm down in Southern New Mexico.
Having a larger cross sectional area also decreases losses from eddy currents (skin effect) thereby increasing efficiency and decreasing associated losses with the motor e.g. I²R losses.
