2004, which got written off when hit by a drunk driver. Then a 2003 with fewer miles.
Both have been the fussiest cars I've ever dealt with.. need specific brands of premium gas, a thousand vacuum lines any leak in any of which will impact the running, etc etc etc
I average 19mpg in my Sport Trac (see profile pic).. not a lot of city driving luckily. Up to 21mpg if not driving 70mph up a CO mountain..
still looking forward to hopefully doubling that with the Maverick.
Bought it used for $3000 from a friend at church. I figured a man has to own a pickup...
life's too short for boring colors.. HPR looks good on you ;-)
mine ordered last year is Atlas Blue Metallic, not a red guy myself and that was the brightest non-red I could find. Build date is given as June 21, waiting patiently..
+1
used to drive a Geo Metro.. 50mpg with a stick shift, kinda loved that car.
A friend gave me a good deal on the truck in my profile pic, 2004 Sport Trac. Really have enjoyed it, way more than I expected to. My 2024 XL hybrid is not yet scheduled for build so will be seeing if I can get to...
ABS is wonderful.
I drove on mud and sand bad roads without benefit of abs or 4wd for 20 years before encountering snow. It's not that much different. My game on icy roads, is to drive so that the ABS doesn't come on..
reader, It always comes on.
gave my son a tow strap when he went to...
I had all-seasons on my RWD Sport Trac, once those were a few years old they were terrifying in snow.. fishtailing up a moderate hill in icy conditions, was lucky to get home without hitting or being hit. This year I have all-weather Atturo Trail Blade A/T and hope for better. So far a couple...
that's not Consumer Reports - that is Jalopnik sloppy reporting, about what you'd expect from a Jalopnik slideshow clickbait ad-driven article.
The mistake about Hybrid AWD is in the CR original report, which is very unusual for CR.
But they aren't saying the Maverick is bad, on the contrary...
in my Sport Trac I sleep in the bed with the tailgate down, it's very comfortable except at 6'2" my feet are out in the cold/rain.
For that I have a Slumberjack Roadhouse Tarp, sets up in about 10min.
The Maverick bed is an inch longer with the tailgate down than the Sport Trac so I'm planning...
always liked the Flex, nearly bought a used one to replace a Sienna minivan.. but then a friend gave me a deal on an Explorer Sport Trac (my avatar) which I have really enjoyed..
The Flex was kinda good-looking in a blunt way, comfortable and powerful to haul canoeing/hunting/boy scouts etc, a...

if they up the price by another $2500 then I'm just giving up and will go buy a Kia Niro hybrid.. better mpg, not nearly as much utility for my backpacking/canoeing/dirt roading escapades though, I'd be sad..
Or keep my 2004 Sport Trac until it collapses, and re-evaluate the market then..
I don't trust oil monitors. There is one on our ICE Honda Fit, it will go literally years and tens of thousands of miles on synthetic before the monitor says to change the oil. I change at 10 000 or a year, whichever happens first. The first time I let the monitor run things it went to 15 000...
thought I'd buy a hybrid Maverick sometime, still happy with my 2004 Ford Sport Trac Explorer meantime.
The Maverick is basically my current truck except new and double the MPG. The Sport Trac is about perfect for me, hauls 2 canoes and 4 people and gear for canoe trips, good for a little light...
