  1. Detailed comparison review of my Mavericks -- XLT vs Lariat, Hybrid vs 2.0. FWD vs FX4 vs Tremor

Taller suspension and heavier tires. The higher you sit, the more wind affects fuel economy. Heavier tires generate greater resistance to rotation, therefore they require more power to accelerate. More power means more fuel.
  2. Sad Maverick Owner. So mad at Ford...

Probably not what you want to hear, but if what you described is accurate neither your dealership nor Ford is responsible for making you whole--that's why you pay for insurance. Your insurance company will go after Ford/the dealership if the law allows it to. There is either a statement on the...
  3. 2022 Ford Maverick XL 12300 miles. Was told I need new tires today.

All other things being equal, vehicle weight can absolutely affect tire life. Weight generates more friction, which is the cause of tire wear. Semi trucks tires start with far more tread depth (up to 28/32" on drive tires), and use a very different compound than passenger car tires. They use...
  4. Anyone use Premium Fuel?

EPA testing is done with regular unless the manufacturer requires the use of premium. EPA tested the Maverick using regular. Correction: Apparently the EPA uses a standardized fuel called Indolene. According to this article at Motor Trend, Ford says its EcoBoost engines lose 3% on fuel economy...
  5. Anyone use Premium Fuel?

This is a bit higher up on the page: This jibes with the owner's manual, which says any performance increase will be most noticeable on hot days with the engine under heavy load. The manual clearly states the engine operates on 87 octane, and it RECOMMENDS 91 octane if you need the most...
  6. Changing your own oil - 2.5L hybrid

It won't help with oil filter access, but you can buy a valve to replace your drain plug. The one at the link below includes a nipple to attach a hose. https://www.fumotousa.com/f137n.html
  7. Granger Ford - Maverick markup experience

I strongly suspect they take as many orders as possible for volume purposes. It stands to reason a certain percentage of customers who place an order will cancel their orders, at which point the ordered vehicle becomes dealer stock to be sold at market value. The more orders you take, the more...
  8. **Trigger Warning! - Costco Kirkland Oil** Oil Analysis w/ TBN - Ecoboost 5W-30

Look around on Blackstone's site. There are a few articles there regarding the "best" oil brand. TL;DR: As regards lubricity (engine oil's primary purpose) there is no significant difference between oil brands. All those quoting the Owner's manual as requiring a Ford specification in the...
  9. Ford Faces Class Action Lawsuit - Hybrid Engine Fires

Are there any reports of injuries related to this recall? It seems to me if there were Ford would've been required to issue a stop drive along with the recall.
  10. New to me Discovery today

Be careful about the habit you are building. I already have trouble with leaving rental cars in park when I shut off the engine; I don't have to move the shifter in my Bronco Sport to park because it does it automatically.
  11. Rotary Shifter not Idiot Proof (I'm an Idiot).

    Don't drink and drive?
  12. Best "small truck" insults!?

Not a "Mav" insult, but I heard a good one about the Bronco Sport I drive. Was with a group of Bronco owners at a 4WD park in Indiana a couple months back. One of the younger folks was looking at a friend's Heritage edition Bronco Sport. He seemed to be impressed we were able to keep up with the...
  13. The Size Difference Still Makes Me Laugh

The Maverick's size is constrained by the size of the C2 platform on which it's built. The days of building a one-off chassis for a single vehicle are long, long gone.
  14. Tested: Is Higher Octane Fuel Better? Better MPG? More HP? -- 87 vs 91 vs 93 Octane with Ethanol Edition (by Project Farm)

This CAN be true for normally aspirated engines, but your EcoBoost uses a turbocharger to force air into the cylinder under pressure, so the engine doesn't really know it's at higher altitude. For this reason, your owner's manual prohibits use of any fuel with octane lower than 87.
  15. Tested: Is Higher Octane Fuel Better? Better MPG? More HP? -- 87 vs 91 vs 93 Octane with Ethanol Edition (by Project Farm)

Unless an engine is designed to take advantage of higher octane fuel, using higher octane fuel will not improve performance. There is nothing inherently "better" about higher octane; it just requires more heat and pressure to ignite--that's it. This is why Project Farm saw no power increase...
  16. Tested: Is Higher Octane Fuel Better? Better MPG? More HP? -- 87 vs 91 vs 93 Octane with Ethanol Edition (by Project Farm)

Not really. When the driver demands maximum power, the powertrain control module (PCM) ramps up power output until it detects knock, then backs off slightly. This is the only way to safely achieve maximum power under the given conditions. In other words, the engine control scheme requires at...
  17. ⛽️ Real-world MPG Stats for Maverick FX4 4K TOW Lifted w/ 2" inch Eibach Springs and 245/70/17 AT Tires

In the post I commented on you said: "With my cruise control set at 60 mph, the truck computer gives me a fuel economy of 27 mpg. Factoring in the discrepancy for the speedometer and odometer, this results in actual fuel economy of roughly 28.5 mpg at 62 mph." I'm asking if your fuel economy...
  18. ⛽️ Real-world MPG Stats for Maverick FX4 4K TOW Lifted w/ 2" inch Eibach Springs and 245/70/17 AT Tires

Did you take any hand measurements, or are all your calculations based on estimates?
  19. ⛽️ Real-world MPG Stats for Maverick FX4 4K TOW Lifted w/ 2" inch Eibach Springs and 245/70/17 AT Tires

Higher altitude means lower air density, which means less wind resistance. It's the same reason airliners can go faster at higher altitudes; less drag.
  20. Octane vs MPG, 87 vs 93, anyone compared?

No, but we--or at least I--operate the overwhelming majority of the time well below the power demand where detonation is likely to occur. And in situations where you will get the absolute BEST fuel economy (highway cruising) power demand is less than 20% of max power. The primary benefit of...
