CV axles just have a hard life. I have had one die in a lower mileage Nissan rogue way before it should. But other times they last the lifetime of the car. Mostly though they seem to be a ware part that you will eventually have to replace like a u-joint or fan belt.

Ford went to a heavier duty transmission and upgraded cooling. Cooling is often the real limit on towing.

You could upgrade to the Tremor axles.

For the Tremor with its 1" lift Ford used stronger CV axles. If your lifting your truck get the Tremor axles they are made to take the extra forces of a lifted truck. Thank you Bwicka for posting the photos of the axles.
