I found this on IHB Rr Co looks like it's mainly a switching hub unless it's very close to your destination.
The line comprises 320 miles (510 km) of track—30 miles (48 km) of single mainline track, 24 miles (39 km) of double-main track and 266 miles (428 km) of additional yard and side track—starting northwest of Chicago in Franklin Park, Illinois at Canadian Pacific's Elgin Subdivision, traveling southeast around the city to its headquarters in Hammond, Indiana.[2]

The railroad's largest yard is Blue Island located in Riverdale, Illinois.[2] The Gibson Yard, located in Hammond, Indiana, is arguably the largest automobile traffic switching operation in the United States. Other yards include Burnham, Calumet City, Alsip, Argo, LaGrange, Rose, Norpaul, Whiting, Michigan Avenue, and Lakefront.

This is interesting, when I called NS this morning it said Elkhart, IN. Which is none of these options. Thoroughly confused and frustrated. Still hoping it will arrive in buffalo tomorrow!

I agree. Their system of tracking is Medieval. You can track a package through any of the package delivery services right up to the day of arrival. The railroad system seems to be using carrier pigeon. for tracking. I've run into the same problem using their phone tracking as you are experiencing. I have no idea where my truck is presently. It looks like only the dealer can track where the truck is once it gets loaded onto a vehicle transport.

It appears that the rail cars containing automobiles after they cross the Mississippi or other places are delivered to IHB Rr which uses it's 54 mile of main line that joins all those numerous cities which contains storage area and access to numerous other rail carriers and IHB Rr sorts them and positions the rail cars to be picked up by the appropriate next rail road. This will allow the most efficient sorting and interchanging of all the rail cars containing automobiles. If multiple rail cars are arriving on different trains and from different shipping points. IHB Rr has over 200 miles of rail in all those locations and will be able to group those headed to the same place together and speedup the sorting. IHB Rr will be incentivised to position each rail car ASAP so that they will turn off the per diem charge on that particular rail car. The next railroad will then be incentivized to pick it up ASAP because they are now responsible for the per diem charge and deliver it ASAP to shut off that expense.

Very interesting info from MakinDoForNow, thanks. I was on Ford Chat and they say that it is at Indiana harbor Belt Rr Co, Burnham IL, deliver date now updated to between 5/20 and 6/2. Hopefully it will arrive before July 4th.

Called Union Pacific on 5/18 and they said something to the effect of Buffalo Bison Ny. It's very difficult to interpret what the automated message is saying, but hopefully the car has reached Buffalo NY.

I believe that is just the destination sadly,

Just called NS and it departed Colby Scanner, Ohio as of about 5am. UP says estimated delivery is now May 22 @ 2pm

Through all of this, I don't understand why you didn't/haven't called CSX. I found their tracking to be excellent all the way with pretty clear identification of each stop and then when the car was empty heading back. I knew exaxctly when it arrived at my Ramp and pretty much within 12 hours of when it was unloaded. The main tracking sticky thread says West of Mississippi, UP, east of Mississippi, use CSX.

OK, that is strange. It gave me Gibson Indiana from last November, so I guess CSX isn't the solution on this one. The last week or two waiting was the hardest for me...Hang in there.

Location: Gibson, IN - Gibson Yard (IHB)
Gibson Yard, west of CP Gibon and east of Hohman on the Indiana Harbor Belt. This yard is at the end of the former MC main line ( CSX Porter Subdivision).

This was a hump yard for the IHB, MC and NYC in the 1940's. The railroads had a car shop and locomotive shop here. East of the main yard across from the IHB, there were the Gibson Transfer Yards. [RAUS]

CSX has turned the car over to IHB and as a result is no longer tracking it. If they later continue tracking it that will be when they take possession or a different railroad may pick it up. It may be possible that November showing on csx was for a prior trip or ? November is a long time what was his shipping date? When and where did csx pickup the rail car in this trip when it was delivered in November?

Let's hope so. Amazing how it takes a month to ship a car by rail. Now I understand why our infrastructure needs work. I have no idea how to track the car from Buffalo. The truck transport looks like you need to be a dealer to access their website, they ask for a PW.
