What the heck are all those bottles? Excedrin or Tums? The life of a trainer must be hectic!
Protein shakes I think. They are probably too busy showing off the Maverick to eat a good meal.

I could care less what the camera sees. What bothers me most is why are there NO options of selecting interior colors? BLUE does NOT go with every exterior color. We can build the truck we want to pay for but we can't select an interior color to go with our build. Damn, they charge for different color exteriors, give us an option and I can decide to pay for a different color interior.

I'm already in talks with the local shop to change my interior on day 2. Real leather with a color of my choosing.
The more options given the higher the overall cost to EVERYONE, not just your car. Also the more options given, they slower the build time.

Henry Ford understood this and when asked about different colors he said "people can have any color they wanted, as long as it was black".

I also suspect that the interior panels, though they look nice, are rather cheap and easily assembled.

I was shocked to see how the dash of my focus is just one giant piece that comes out surprisingly easy. Less time spent putting it together, less money didn't producing it, less cost to buyer.

Cheap isn't bad, IMO. I like cheap and cheerful cars.

Not sure I follow that thought process.

If they can pull an engine off the line for Hybrid vs. EcoBoost, what's the difference of having 2 different seat colors and charging extra for 1?

If they can offer 11 different color exteriors and charge extra for 4 of them, what's the difference of having 2 different seat colors and charging extra for 1?

Do they have all the Blue trucks go through the line on Monday, the Orange trucks on Tuesday, the Black trucks on Wednesday...........?

I agree, most people do not understand the process and the cost involved.

Lets just start with paint choices. Why not have an infinite variety of paint? 1. you would have to stock an infinite variety of each paint. (what quantity of each would you buy) 2. you have to set of a booth for each color on the assembly line OR have the paint guns have an infinite number of nozzles, one for each color. (I don't think any one makes a paint gun with an infinite number of nozzles) . Then wouldn't you want coordinating color interiors? All that translates to added cost upfront that adds to the cost of the vehicle. and slows down the production speed. An assembly line that is streamlined works the fastest. There are also human workers on the line, they are more proficient with less variety.

If that's a soft Tonneau, then this looks to be exactly what I ordered. Pics are becoming my new screensaver while I wait.

I'm no expert, nor do I have direct knowledge, but I'd imagine it goes something like this:

"All right fabric supplier... What's the bottom line?"
"Well, we can lower cost if you buy ### yards of the same color fabric."
"Well I'm that case, well cancel the grey beige combo and convert that to the navy pier combo."
........,.............,....,,....

Assembly plant shift manager:
"What's the training schedule look like for the new Maverick?"
Ford: "we're limiting options to three trim levels with half the available options as ranger. There are xxxxxx variables to train."
Manager: "great! We're should be able to ramp up assembly in half the time."
..............
"We've got the Mav team here. We have parts to build xxxxxx eco boost trucks and xxx hybrid trucks on hand."

Ford: "well in that case, build the Ecoboost first to keep those workers occupied."

The manufacturers could do it decades ago, look at cars from the 50s and 60s, lots of colors, two-tones, three-tones. Lots of interior colors too. I’m tired of white, black, silver and gray exteriors; and I’m tired of black, gray and tan interiors. Most people disagree with me on this.

I used to work for a seat manufacturer that made seats for a general motors plant a couple of blocks away, and I think everyone in this thread who thinks offering more choices is easy have no understanding of the process.

Take seats, for example. The seats for any given Maverick are actually not stored at the factory producing that Maverick. In fact, until a few minutes before that Maverick is made, those seats don't even exist. There is another factory down the road producing them, and delivering them to the factory at the exact time the factory needs them. There is no storage, it is just in time manufacturing.

The seat vendor won't be storing up seats, either. Nobody in the process really has the capability to store anything other than low level components or raw materials, and even then they only keep enough to remain in operation for a few days at best, taking into account the lead times from their suppliers.

Storing raw materials cost money and coordinating multiple choices of interior color and materials add complexity and cost to the manufacturing process. That same seat manufacturer is probably making seats for the bronco sport, as well.

So when you say, just add another option, it's easy! You are not correct, it takes time, planning, and adds more complexity to the build process. There are reasons the Maverick is cheap, and limited interior options is one of them.

At what cost? no one is saying it can not be done. Automation does not come cheap but it is paid for by volume of product produced.
