Gotta say, just over two months of driving the Maverick XLT here in Puerto Rico and it has exceeded expectations. We have driven in monsoon downpours, through mud and rocks and the truck behaves amazing in the sand even with the stock tires soon to be replaced with Cooper Adventurer ATs 245/65/17 on those great looking stock rims. But my point here is that I have put combos of paddle boards and surfboards in the truck bed. I have had 2 paddle boards and 2 surfboards strapped in and even 3 of these 11' inflatable paddle boards which I leave inflated at all times. Pick was from today with just two boards for my wife and I. Just saying, using proper straps and when just riding surfboards protect the bed and board, this little truck is great without racking them on the roof!

I got a similar truck to yours ordered, and i live the island life too. Glad to hear its good in the sand, but how well does your underbody clean? Thats how we get rotted out on Maui.

I do plan on gettig a rack and a cap with a rack aswell. We are always hauling big stuff, not just boards and need the capacity of a roof and cap mounted rack.

Sweet truck though.

I have a 12.5 foot kayak that will be in my Maverick once it arrives this Summer.

I am swapping out tires which provide an additional .66" rise using Cooper Adventurer ATs as I am guessing you meant clear vs clean? I may ultimately do a lift but even with the stock tires going slow I have done well without tearing up the underside although I do have scrapes. The biggest issue in getting those scrapes was a lack of grip with the stock tires. I totally get mounting a cap rack, please post a pic when you do! If you did actually mean clean, the two times I have sucked up a lot of mud the underside cleaned out well with my power sprayer :)

I gottq say, your set-up looks pretty awesome and could allow me even more hauling options. Did you install yourself and what rack system is it? I am finding out a lot of aftermarket I would like to get my hands on won't ship to Puerto Rico

Thanks so much for sharing these pics, beauty of a truck! When mine arrives, I am intending to put a 10' SUP & kayak in the bed, but was thinking about using the tailgate in the halfway position to reduce the angle sticking out and be able to use the add'l tiedowns off the gate as well - any chance you could take a pic of your boards in that gate position for comparison? Would really appreciate it.

Quebradillas, the beach is Playa Guataca where the Guataca river reaches the sea, I paddle board on the river 2-3 times a week and then hang at the beach - y tu?

I will be happy to take those pics on my next venture out, which is soon. The reason I like this angle is here in Puerto Rico, drivers will get right up to your tail at stops so this avoids my boards getting hit, it also provides a better view to trucks to avoid their hitting the boards. Talked with a guy with a short bed F150 whose boards were ruined when a truck underestimated how far they were sticking out even though like me he had flags at the ends.

Yeah I was talking about getting sand(and the salt it contains) up in places in the underbody. I know some models come with a felt underside that looks like it hold enough enough sand to make my floors start to disappear in about 5 years. Needless to say I will be cleaning my underbody constantly here. I plan on a lift too but probably not until its time for a new set of 245/70s. Probably going with the most aggressive tire I can find. We ordered from Granger so will be going to mainland to get it and install a cap there, once a good one becomes available. Then we will have a nice fun road trip before we ship it to Hawaii.
