I had to remove the cubby to do my bed wiring today and decided to try it on the drivers side. It fits, however, the passenger side has another shield to keep water out of that area and the drivers side does not since the muffler gets in the way.

One might be worried about heat as well from the muffler but I think there is lots of air gap.

If I were to add a cubby on the drivers side I would probably spend a little time with some caulking and weather stripping to seal the unit.

Bummer. Thanks for the info. Maybe the one made for the other side isn’t as deep to account for the muffler
It's not really a bummer. From what I saw the cubby snaps together and you could easily pull it apart and use some NP1 or similar to seal it. If you are worried about heat you could add insulated heat tape to the cubby bottom. I think it's doable. A person could just try it as is and have no problems. I wouldn't even have noticed an issue if I wasn't on my back under the car (truck, sorry, sure feels like a car from that angle) running wires.

Or 3D print the part and have a cubby on both sides

I agree with kw86er, not really a bummer.

His post made me take a look and possibly rethink having put one on the driver side a couple months ago. I did see exactly what he did and just wanted to add what my take was.

Even though I had just driven for quite a while, the cubby was cold and had no visible heat damage even though it’s only a few inches away. I felt the muffler and I could keep my hand on it. Also there is a wiring harness that runs far closer to the muffler than the cubby. I’m not positive but I think I see it in his photos.

I make no assurances to anyone about installing a right cubby on the left, Ford does apparently make a left cubby but I was only able to buy a right one so I experimented. You have to make your own decisions, but I was okay with it.

The install of cubbies in XL’s is kind of academic at this point because just like the bed mats, they seem to be unavailable. ☹

I think that the lariat trim without lux has a driver's side cubbie already.

Was at dealer yesterday, they had a lariat without lux there and it did have the cubby on both sides!
