Ever wondered if making your fender vent functional was worth it? Took a video this morning after arriving to work to show the heat distribution.

55mile drive, outside temp 69, avg speed 70

Ok so you vented some hot air from the engine compartment, Very cool.
I like the idea, the concept.

But !

Your thermostat will simply open just a teeny tiny bit less to maintain optimal engine temperature, correct ?

Engine maintains temp fine. This has helped me see reduced IAT’s and overall lower temps during back to back runs / long drives

Thanks for scientifically showing that the cut outs in side vents are functional. Like you, I also feel the heat emanating from the vent after a drive.

However, as you are driving, air is flowing INTO the vents helping to reduce the engine bay temps. Like opening a window a bit for example.

Ditto.

ironically timed right before this thread started, I ordered a set of these fender vents direct from Air Design on Sunday.

Then this thread popped up.

THEN I noticed the previous LONG thread conc functional fender vents, and, just wow. So much back and forth. 😱😫

Despite owning my 2022 fx4 4k Maverick since 5/2024, I’ve only started paying attention and planning and purchasing equipment for it the past few months. I was aware enough that the aftermarket for the platform was great when I bought it; that was one of the deciding factors that won me over against staying with the 8th gen civic platform. (I had made extensive plans from extensive research for those civic si cars) I’m still newer to the goings on but I delve deep and learn quick. It was disappointing to learn what happened with Ivan as I was really looking forward to obtaining a set of adapter brackets for those euro focus Brembo calipers.

I noticed the fender vents while I was looking at the other products they offer for the Maverick. Then I was swayed by their price and the stock notification ā€œonly five leftā€. Now I’m well aware that’s a tactic used by sales and scammers alike, introducing the sense of urgency. In this case I took it as legitimate and squeezed the trigger on a set without giving too much thought to just how well they functione, so this video post is reassuring that my purchase is snakebite, not snake oil.

I'm also glad I discerned there is a difference between the actual spoiler by air design and the design copy produced by mabett. Nothing against them as a company though, or their products. I’m about to install the rear hitch cover they make shortly after I finish typing this. Just when I noticed the difference I canceled my Amazon order for their spoilers and am waiting a bit longer to purchase the real thing by air design.

it’s like Christmas in July for me and my truck this year. Both my ISC coilovers and Stainless Works 3ā€ downpipe are due to arrive in the next few weeks, and I should be able to order my wheels and tires two weeks from now. A few weeks behind from original schedule but better a touch late than never!

Good to hear! If looking for a group that performance based, full of like minded owners and has positive relationships with companies look up street mavericks! On FB (our main outlet) but we’re also on IG and in the groups here. Tho we’re the least active in here.
