I really enjoy riding my e-bike on the trails at my local park and had tossed around the idea of a hitch bike rack, but couldn't justify it to myself having a bed to haul it in. So, I've been using ratchet straps to secure it. It's kind of an inconvenience, but not anymore.

I'm now using @Maxzina 's retractable ratchet straps that are mounted to the bed, replacing the upper-rear tie downs by the tailgate. They now make it so convenient to secure my bike to the bed in seconds.

I also added a carabiner clip to lower the tie down points when needed by just running the straps through the carabiner on the opposite side attached to the lower-rear tie down and then back over, shown in a pic. With the tailgate angled up and locked in that position, I can secure smaller items like 2×4s to the bed.

The installation should be easy for most. The ratchets' bracket replaces the tie down, and it shares the last bolt on the side rail. I have a sports bar that also shares that bolt, so after some brainstorming, I realized that I just needed to remove a washer behind the rail, then it all slid into place. The bracket itself has many places for tie downs, too.

Hey Mike, tell me more about your eyelet right next to your installed ratchet bracket on the left driver side? Looks like a good match to the factory rail setup? Also curious about the hook one on the right passenger side. Did you DIY these or find them online and they happened to work well? Thanks!

The two you mention are the same thing.
A diy of sorts... modified oem Tacoma hooks to fit our rail system. They are strong and get a lot of use. Here's a video I made just for this very reason.😉

I really like this idea.

Is there a version that can go INTO the track so it can slide and adjust front to back?
Yeah.Of course. We have Mav owner who have made their own modified straps that can move forward and backward, with only a few additional parts added to the back of the straps. At the same time, we are also producing universal straps that can be combined with guide rails.
