The state governments do not make it easy to get info about people from license plate numbers whether you are a criminal or not. My real license plate is 9JOE936.

I challenge any of you to find my car info, home address and phone number from that license plate.

My phone is not with Sprint. It was five years ago before they were acquired by T-Mobile but I no longer have a phone with T-mobile either.

I guess I should have paid the $2 for the non-free lookup then. But point is, you're leaking info all over the damn net, plus it's getting collected every time you sign into a hotel, use a parking garage, or get your vehicle serviced at a chain service center. All that goes somewhere upstream to whoever they've got agreements with for data sharing. Doesn't need to come from a govt database. In the tens we said "They're just drowning in data, they can't possibly do anything meaningful with it, so no need to be concerned" yeah well, 15 years of finding out how to index it, mine it, monetise it, has got us here.

Please tell me you have your plates spray painted solid black so NONE of those places get your information. Pull that tin foil a little tighter . Fact is if you have done any business online they have your information.

I am the Information Technology Manager at a Silicon Valley high tech company in charge of security among other things so I am well aware of what info of mine and yours is out there. That said I still insist that you will be able to get nothing from my license plate alone unless you are with law enforcement. Plenty of people with Mavericks do not black out their plates in the pics they post here. I have never heard of any negative consequences of showing their plates here.

Oh I agree with you. Not arguing at all. I changed my picture and blacked it out because I was tired of this comment to every post I made. So it was to shut up the tin foil hats and nothing more.

i have no problem with people blacking out license plates in these perilous times of identity theft and other nefarious activities. Your reason is valid and just feeling safer is also a valid reason to do so even if in my opinion it makes no difference. For some people the illusion of safety is as good as the real thing.
