Hi there! Been thinking about a Maverick since they came out. Saw one at the Twin Cities Auto Show and have my wife now on board mostly after sitting in one...
So... if I go this direction this is going to be our 2nd vehicle. I've got a Tesla Model 3 AWD that is our primary vehicle, whomever is driving further takes that or if we are going anywhere as a family that's the one. Our current second vehicle is a 2020 Kia Soul we got when prices were way down. I like the Soul a lot, just miss having a truck now and then, especially when hauling our bikes or kayak. Anyways, here's my thoughts. I live in Minnesota, yes we get a lot of snow, but decent tires and FWD is great. Heck it will be a lot better than the winter I had an 86 ranger 2WD with sketchy tires and had to throw a linkage from a rail train (think 400 lbs of iron) in the bed to keep me straight... But this won't be the road trip car on snow/ice. Clearance is much better than the Soul (and X-line trim has the wide low-profile tires) so the one spot that struggles with which is my driveway that is steep won't be an issue.
Not looking for something off-road. Dirt roads is the worst it will see. I had a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon when I lived in Colorado, and used to take that out to Moab Utah, this isn't going to be replacing that lol. I don't need to tow now. I've got a camper, but it's a beast, and on a seasonal spot. I may occasionally use my friends little 250lb mesh trailer to pull some stuff out to the camper at most, my guess is the bike hitch rack will be the only thing that gets hooked up though. But there might be a day when I sell the seasonal and a little 15-18 footer may be in the cards. Doubtful though and I'm fine not hinging on that.
So... I'm thinking XL... I can't see a reason for the XLT. Part of what held me off last year was the XL didn't have cruise, and didn't want to spring for an XLT for that. I am fine with manual mirrors, had an F-150 with the keypad and used it... never in 5 years. I won't be sitting in the back and there's cupholders in the doors and the little attachment piece in the center console I've seen work for that IF that becomes an issue.
I don't need the AWD, so don't see a reason to get the ecoboost. I had the 3.5 ecoboost in my F-150, loved that motor, but I've got my car which gets up and goes if I want some spirited driving...
Looking at the Bed utility package (Minnesota, need something there so scratches in the bed don't rust) so that's the spray in liner, the cargo system, then I'd add the bed extender flip-over thingy, and the little hitch (4 pin) for the bike carrier. Some floor liners and I'm walking out the door at a tick over 25k (talked to the local dealership they do price as listed on the build site, no markups, nothing up front unless I order something really specialized in a package). Anything else I should be thinking of here? I don't need the ford 360 (again, Tesla is the main travel car, and have the full self-driving beta, really adaptive cruise is the only thing I'd be interested in which isn't until the Lariat I believe).
I'm also floating the idea that this could be a more primary vehicle if my wife's job has her traveling more, bumping up to the AWD and ecoboost on the XL trim and getting the tow package. Which puts it right at $28k. And $3k more and another $400 a year or so in gas isn't really the end of the world. Either way that is going 3 years newer on a more capable vehicle, and cost will be $4-7k based on trade/sale of the Kia. Talking with the local dealer about next one coming through they have letting me test drive one as I've sat in one and am pretty adaptable but want to be sure.
So, I'll keep digging and listening if there's any features I might be interested in that I've forgotten or any quirks I want to know. I am curious how the engine noise inside is between the ecoboost and the hybrid are when running at speed.
