I haven't done a sound system upgrade in 20 years and never kept the OEM HU, so I'd just like to run this past the electrical and audio folks on here. You folks have done great work so I'm sure you'll be able to poke holes in my plan and hopefully make it better.
I've read a bunch of stuff on here and I'm sure the equipment list will look familiar:
Focal 165 RSE components (on sale for $100 and tweeters don't require surgery to install)
Kicker Key200.4 (active setup for Focal fronts)
Kicker HS10 behind the rear seat
All kinds of extras (tesa tape, shrink tubes, speaker foam tape, speed rings.........)
The plan:
- Mount both Kickers in rear
- Run the front signal through 4 wires of the 9 speedwire to rear
- Split the signal as speaker level to inputs of Key and HS10
- I have the hybrid, so power/ground is right there in the back
- Return front signal from Key in the other 4 wires in the speedwire to harness wiring for doors and carry on w/ new wire to tweeters (active on Key)
- Rear speakers will just be powered by HU or disconnected if they suck
Am I thinking too simply? 1 speedwire between HU and rear, new wire from tweeters to HU (connected to return trip of speedwire).
My questions:
- Can I really just use the battery in the back for this?
- I've seen both yes/no answers to splitting the high level inputs. I've never used them before since I always used aftermarket HUs w/ RCAs in the past but would love to try this if I'm not being stupid.
