No Idea where to stick this thread, but I was wondering how many of us are either less than normally mobile (wheelchair/cane/walker etc) and how you plan to adapt your Maverick.

In my case I am having some heavy hand bars added in drivers side so I can put my full 250 lbs on them and pick myself up or sit down.

I like the low seat position of the truck, but I do not use hand controls, so here’s hoping the pedals are in a good position.

The bed is just large enough to handle my power chair (Quantum Edge 3) and I plan on using a liftgator tailgate replacement with powered stabilizers and attaching the bed rings to the mount points on my chair.

How will you be adapting things?

Manual chair user. Only adaptation will be hand controls. Chair will go in back seat or bed when seat is occupied. Was concerned that pedal guard would need to be installed but with throttle by wire the pedal will be inoperable when hand control engaged. Also don’t forget your 1,000.00 reimbursement for modification through Ford mobility.

Thank you for the reminder, I don’t think the liftgator qualifies. The drivers side pull handle might though and anything is better than nothing.

I am fortunate enough to have both a seat elevator and an attendant control.
One problem I have though is that my legs and feet are fully functional. Why is that a problem? Because I keep trying to use them, and my legs never change length, but I am 4 inches shorter now (literally) and nothing they can do. Eventually I will learn that just because I can move them (though feel is rapidly declining) I shouldn’t. Lol nothing connecting the 2 halves that can bear weight.

enough complaining… I am fortunate that the special Olympics wheel chair racers train in my town and that the Georgia School for the deaf is right up the road in the next town so a have access to a tonne of adaptive advice and a great support structure when I get down about things.

I’m assuming the stabilizers lower to the ground to support he weight on the lift gate?

Yes, that’s why it can take a 1300lb load. You have 2 options: Manual (turn the crank) or power (pair of 12 batteries useful for 30 lift operations that recharge either off of 110 or a 7 pin trailer plug)
