iPad mounting options

Hey everyone,

I’m hoping to get some recommendations on an iPad mount for my Maverick.

I have an older 7th gen iPad with cellular that I was hoping to use.

The use cases are going to be probably like an extension of CarPlay:
Movies for the family on road trips
Maybe google maps navigation due to bigger screen
Occasional FaceTime/video call for work

Preferred location would be in the front of the vehicle
Would prefer not to drill

I have been looking into options for my ipad mini and Pro 11" for a little while. Best thing I could find was the Bulletpoint Mounting Solutions RubiGrid stuff. Does require drilling but doesn't seem to be too intrusive. Easy to cover with liners or one of those aftermarket trays. Looks clean and is relatively cheap so I wouldn't see a reason to take it out if you go to sell later on. Another option would be the ProClip USA mount. Depending on the size of the iPad you may have to rig something up to offset it away from the dash. I have been on the hunt for a single 20mm threaded ball mount that matches up with one of the FORD bolts similar to what the ProClip does. Haven't got around to measuring the bolt length and thread type yet. As for the ipad mount, you could go with the Bulletpoint one or go with a 3rd party case/mount. I use Quad Lock for my phone and Pivot stuff for my iPad since I use them for aviation related stuff. Spent a good amount of time researching this stuff in my free time so figured I'd make a post to try and help out! Let me know what you think.

The BulletPoint is the better option. I’ve had both. The ProClip would pull loose from the dash trim that it mounts to frequently no matter how many ways i screwed it in. I went back and forth with their support people and eventually returned it for a refund. The bullet point does require drilling but it is a much more stable platform. It holds my phone way better and will likely hold much much better to the weight of an iPad. BulletPoint costs more but there is greater flexibility with it as well.

Thanks for the input on the Proclip! I'm assuming you mean the little clamp-like part that grabs onto the cubby and not the bolt itself correct? I ended up buying a USB cubby insert from Akro Designs and use my Quad Lock vent mount + mag charger for my phone. Be interested to see if one of those bolt holes could support a 6" arm with an ipad attached. Most likely gonna have to be a trial and error situation.

No for me and others, it was the screw itself, there is nothing behind that thin piece of plastic on the dash that the screw actually engages with. Plus that screw has a very wide thread pattern (I tried purchasing a longer screw to see if it would grab, it’s a speciality screw that I could not find locally). With a bump in the road it could not handle the weight of an iPhone 12 and would either start to pull the trim out from the dash or just keep slipping off of the cubby wall.

Well that's unfortunate. Good to know though! Will have to figure out a way to reinforce that mounting point or just scrap the idea altogether. Thanks for the info!
