So I'm one of those that discovered the Maverick hybrid a little too late. I've seen numerous people who have decided to back out of their hybrid order for various reasons, weather it be they don't feel like waiting, or they found something else, etc. I usually tell them that since I can't get one now, or probably for a year plus I'd be happy to take the order over. It's usually met with crickets, and no reply. Is this something that's even possible? Or does it then turn into dealer stock? I've called all the dealers around me about unspoken for dealer stock and I'm yet to be successful to find a dealer with any.

My guess in todays climate, it would depend on how much over MSRP you are willing to pay.

People that have backed out of special orders the dealer is rubbing their hands together thinking hmmmm how big can I go $$$$$$$

Very true. And honestly I want one, but not enough to pay a small fortune over MSRP. But if I can find a halfway reasonable deal (I'll pay a little over MSRP) I'd probably take it.

I was moreso curious to see if I could fill in for someone that decided they didn't want it without much dealer involvement (especially seeing as the second they get involved they'll try and get their piece of the pie with their adjustment fees and whatnot)

There is no direct route to take over someone’s unwanted order. The vehicle will become dealer stock, if it’s canceled outright. That leaves you open to the dealer markups we are seeing all over the place.

Your best bet would be to keep looking for someone who might be willing to take delivery and turn around a sell to you directly for something less than a kings ransom.

Good hunting. 👍

I think it would depend on the dealer. With my limited understanding, I believe that the person would have to buy the truck from the dealer and then sell it to you. If their name is not on the sales paperwork then it would go against the policy Ford is supposed to be putting in place to prevent fake orders for dealer stock. If the dealership doesn't convert X number of orders to sales then they lose allocations. Once a new name is put on the sales paperwork its not a retail order but a stock purchase so they will do what they want with it.

For the next 4-6 months I don't see anyone paying "a liitle over" MSRP. You are going to have pay thousands over MSRP to get a Hybrid from either the dealer or directly from someone who has changed their mind.

Only way I could see that happening is if you knew the person and on good terms. At time of sale just say I'm putting my name on title. Other wise you could be dinged for sales tax twice.

probably SOL legally on "taking over" an order in somebody else's name and no way around dealer involvement since they actually own the vehicle until purchase completed by a customer. Dealers are wise to all the tricks and workarounds on stuff like this to block you from cutting them out.

My suggestion is make a personal connection with a sales person and ask them to call you when there appears to be a vehicle in transit to them where it appears likely a customer is going to walk away and not purchase it. My brother in law did that after only recently deciding he wanted a Maverick and got a call giving him 30 minutes to get down to the dealer and complete purchase contract. He got there just in time as 3 other people (also on the sales person's call back list) arrived with ca$h in hand ready to buy it. Expect that to happen anywhere you go with a list of interested people and a 1st come 1st served experience awaiting you. Make sure you have your payment method nailed down and the sales person you are talking to knows this so they are looking at a fast sure thing sale with no hangups.

The paying over MSRP is a potential reality you may have to accept (as many have) until or unless the supply is greater than the demand for Mavericks. That may even take you into next Spring when order banks for hybrid open again. Advantage there is they should have all the recalls and other issues solved by then and it will be a MY2023.

best of luck to you :)

That's what we're thinking too. My spouse and I each have a truck ordered. My truck was built last week; my husband's is in production now. Our current plan is for my husband to buy the one he ordered, and I will let mine go. BUT we have a close friend who ordered in November who is debating whether he might want to buy my order - the one that's waiting to be shipped now.

We've discussed how it might work, and I'm thinking that I'd have to buy my truck and then friend would have to buy it from me, which could result in credit score chaos if I finance any part of that truck cost. 🤷‍♀️

Congrats on the build date. Still waiting on mine. If you friend can get the financing first and then just pay cash for the truck through you that would not mess with your credit at all. If you have to finance it will be a small hit but as soon as you sold you would have a paid off car loan on your credit report which is a good thing.

You could just do a title transfer or even just put their name on the title at the dealership possibly. Depends on what the local laws are where you live.

Thanks for all the advice. I really do appreciate it, and I appreciate you guys clearing things up for me. Honestly, it looks like I'll just have to wind up waiting to order my own, unless someone on here takes delivery and wants to sell one to me. I currently drive a ragged out Chevy Sonic that's been reliable for the past 120k miles I've put on it. It's got 165k now so it *should* last the next year or two it may take if I have to order.

Thanks again! Sounds like for now I'll just live vicariously through everyone on here.

Happy travels!

Best of luck to you guys, I hope everything works out for you guys the way you want it to.

If you or your friend wind up with one you're not keeping, and it's a hybrid, I'd be interested lol New Bern is within driving distance

All three of the orders are hybrid lariats. Ordered from Cella Ford.
