Well Friday I had my 1st Upstate New York drive through mountain roads, in fog, on a skating rink of ice - and didnt even realise I was driving on a sheet of ice from the fog.
These pics are the last miles broke through the fog & realized I was driving an ice rink,
& I was going the speed limit down some quite steep grades & never felt a thing, not a hint of fishtailing as the regenerative braking just slowed the wheels down gradually enough to keep grip.
At the hotel I saw NY had declared a state of emergency telling drivers to avoid being on the road between 6p-12a Friday - well whadaya know thats just when I was driving.
Uphill on the ice my Honda CRV would've matched the Maverick, but down these grades on an icerink with 300 lbs in the back? Not as well, Ive done it and CRV is good but "wagged" a couple times.
More to do with limitations of having only mechanical brakes, no regenerative braking
This is when a hybrid makes its case for towing - torque converter transmission will do nothing for you, unlike hybrid regenerative braking, so slow a descent on a steep grade on an icy road hauling a load.
I got out & had trouble carrying my bag walking across the ice, wearing steeltoe boots.
