All I can say is, WOW! Who would have guessed that ugly air dam would make that much difference. Well, Toyota can boast of the "official" MPG, only to have most owners remove the air dam in the real world.

I won't be putting on a ton of highway miles anyway so won't make a huge difference. I'll throw the air dam back on if I'm doing a road trip somewhere.

We’re just gonna have to modify it into an active air dam.
The plastic one the tacos come with may be too flimsy to make it into a retractable one but if it really makes that much difference, a custom retractable version will definitely be something we would be interested in developing.

This Toyota rep said the front airdam was good for 4-5mpg. Guess we’ll all lose mpg on day one of ownership.

That's odd, the calendar doesn't say April 1...

I’d guess the sales rep mis stated. If you can gain 4-5 mpg with that air dam they’d be on every vehicle for the last 30 years.

Looking forward to someone testing this on an early delivery. That 4-5 mpg is probably null w/the Trailhunter ARB steel bumper. Payload vs. MPG my biggest question on the hybrids…

Some company will build a smaller after market air dam that will look better and maybe keep 2-3 mpg

Exactly, if that air dam was worth 4 mpg, they would have made the 3rd gen air dam that size, dude doesn't know what he's talking about.
IIRC some of the 3rd gener's took the air dam off and it made maybe a very small difference.

I liked the truck even more after seeing this, debating wether to get the hybrid though,

Really need to see the actual mpg's on both options.
