Custom pipe rack

I guess I am looking for a definite “maybe”. Or I am just going to have to wait until I get it. I ordered an XLT with the Ford Tri-fold hard tonneau cover. I am wondering if I can make a custom pipe rack that will work with that particular cover. Has anyone made a custom pipe rack that will work with that cover?

The way that cover looks to be mounted, I would have serious doubts. I'm using a cheaper soft tonneau (Gator SRX) with *no parts that go over the bed rail trim* in order to accommodate my rack. The most accessible mounting points are in the C Channel that looks to be totally covered by that tri-fold tonneau.

The hard roll-up rack offered looks like it could work, though, provided you are willing to bolt though the trim. In that case, the 'cover' part doesn't go over the rails. Just the trim.

See the "hacked" thread by Wojty for some details on mounting a Tracrac system. Not exactly what you are trying to do, but it might help you to visualize things a bit.

Yeah, I tried going to a local dealer to see how much room was left after the cover is installed. I think I’ll have to wait until it comes in to see if it is possible.
