Hi,
We have a 22 Maverick Lariat Hybrid with Luxury Pkg. and 1st Edition Pkg. We had every alert imaginable....until we had to have the front windshield replaced.
After safelite replaced the windshield and re-calibrated the front camera, we lost the function that gave an alert as you approach a vehicle or pedestrian at
the front of the vehicle. Safelite told me that we never had that feature. The dealership told us on the first visit that when they fixed the open recall that function would be restored. That made no sense, and of course was not true. On the second visit they said we didn't have that feature to begin with. On the third visit they
said we do have this feature but would need to recalibrate the camera again. After recalibrating the camera, we still do not have the alert when approaching
something or someone in the front. On the fourth visit they say we do have this feature but only if driving at a speed of 12 mph. It originally would give the audible
alert when very slowly pulling into a parking spot when a car was near the front, definitely not going 12 mph. HELP!! Can anyone help me clear up this mystery?
I just want the same vehicle I had before spending 1300.00 at Safelite for a new windshield.

The pre-collision is the feature where it alerts you if you are nearing another object and you do not slow down, and will break for you, if you do not. you are thinking of front sensors (there is usually 3-4 sensors on the front bumper on other models that do have this feature) that alert you to getting to close to things at low speeds. the maverick is not equipped with these sensors. most likely your Pre-collision assist (a sensor between your rearview mirror and windshield) was not working correctly and alerting to you inaccurately. when you had it recalibrated it was actually working. the Pre-collision assist will not alert until you are just about to crash. its only activated in emergency situations, I've had it happen to me once when a car slowed to turn and i did not realize.

Last Sunday morning about 7:30, I was returning home. A motorcycle passed me while picking up speed and was about 200 yards in front of me. No one was behind me. All of a sudden the pre collision alert went off and the truck braked hard. Why? Any ideas?

were they in the same lane or passing lane still? yours may need to be recalibrated if its sensing that far ahead of you.

Sarah, the motorcycle was in the same lane but up a small rise but still visible and pulling away from me. I had cruise on at 60 mph in 55 zone and the motorcycle was much faster.

That's not normal, the system wasn't working properly. Replacing the windshield again will not "break" it back to what it was doing originally.

The alert warnings are only supposed to be for imminent collisions.

Sarah is correct. I also have the co pilot on mine and I have only had it go off I think once. You shouldn't be getting it while parking.... unless you are flying into spots that have a wall in front haha. As for the motor cycle it should have gone off unless when he swung in from passing and was super close. Or he slid in then hit brakes.

It sounds to me as if your was malfunctioning originally and is now working more like it was intended.

First problem. Safelite is known to be, probably, the worst option for glass replacement.

This is one of the reasons Safelite is so terrible. They will just lie to your face. I would walk in with your original build sheet and tell them to repeat what they told you - on and off.

Safelite is responsible for recalibration. This should have been a completely seamless and hands-off situation for you.

Solutions available to you...........

1) Press Safelite one last time to resolve the issue. Even if that requires Ford services to get involved and Safelite pays them.

2) If you used a card for the purchase I would immediately contact the bank and perform a charge back.

3) Contact your insurance, you can file a claim against them and they will go after Safelite for damages to the vehicle. However, double check with your insurance to ensure it won't count as a claim against your policy. In our case it wouldn't be a claim, but we would be responsible for the deductible.

4) Never use Safelite again.

I would check with your service department, and have it recalibrated, it should not be doing that with the object so far ahead.

unfortunately Safelight would not be at fault for the system working inaccurately. when Safelight replaced the windshield and recalibrated the system, it actually fixed an inaccurately working sensing system.

This is an incredibly well documented issue with Safelite. They are notorious for not properly recalibrating these systems, on top of shoddy work.

Like nearly all modern vehicles the Maverick requires calibration after a windshield replacement. A process that is actively marketed as taking place by Safelite.

Here.

A serious answer? This is an issue I am not going to spend the time to link a bunch of complaints. Anyone is free to easily look up the myriad complaints on Safelite. There are plenty to read!
Okay. And no offense intended, but a list of complaints is not documentation.

Another point to consider is to check your vehicle's settings. You should be able to adjust the function and sensitivity of your pre-collision assist via the steering wheel controls.
