Automatic license plate cover

The plate lights are only on with the head/parklights. You'd probably be better off using the bed power as a trigger. It's tied to the same "Battery Saver" strategy as the 12v power outlets, so it stays live for about 10-15 min after the truck is shut off, then it's powered down.

It'd be interesting to know if there's a way to wire one of those shade kits to default to closed with 12v removed.

Better idea, just leave the tailgate down while filming. I'm sure that'd block the plate from most camera angles, it'd be obvious enough to catch your attention when you drive off, and even if you forgot, the plate would never be truly, illegally blocked.
